FTR--Westbrook is owed $4.03M. If waived and signed as a UFA, the NBA minimum for a 10+ year player is $3.2M, which the new team would pay and the Clips only on the hook for the remainder.
I suppose it's possible the Nugs are playing games over a small amount of money, but it doesn't seem smart to me. If you really want him and he wants you, make the deal and lock it down.
I think the problem is that Nugs have nothing--they're a really good team if everyone is healthy. But they lack depth and are as bad off -- worse actually -- as us with draft picks. They had to let KCP walk because they didn't want the problem we would have had with PG and the second apron. Even so, their payroll is higher than ours now. They're locked into first apron restrictions like we are; we both need a third team to make trades work.
