Revenge season for Kawhi. Like when ppl said he was lying to the Spurs. Jk. Idk how to take Lawrence Frank's press conference. I enjoy that stuff though, GMs being 'honest'. It sounds like he didn't look great. Honestly there was a clip where he was doing a drill with Steph and Lebron and it looked like he was going half speed. That being said, I think Kawhi kinda earned the right to play on the team in a sense.

either Frank is lying about this or Team USA just figured that Kawhi would not be available during clutch games anyway, so they decided to replace him.

Yes. Looks like the latter if you read between the lines. Out of respect for his stature, you have to start him. But you have no guarantee or confidence Kawhi will be there after you've built your rotation around him. Just like us.

Kawhi probably thought Team USA was just like the Clippers where he could tell them if he was playing or not right before tip off, not disclose his injuries to the media and public, or shut it down at halftime and head home. They weren't playing with that bullsh*t.

For all we know, he might be just as relieved that Kawhi's not playing as we are. But either way, he can't realistically say that in public without jeopardizing the team's relationship with Kawhi, locker room morale, any trade value Kawhi might still have, etc.

Yeah I get that, but it came off as total bullsh*t and everybody knows it. There had to be a better way to address that than throwing shade at Team USA & Grant Hill and making them out to be the villains.

Not an unfair comment. It's all true. And although they won't do it, why I say the sensible thing is to make him the highest-paid sixth man in NBA history, so his absences wouldn't be as disruptive.

Some of the talking heads believe the Nike thing is real. Has been for years. Brown is outspoken among other things. Leonard sued Nike over his klaw logo. It doesn’t surprise me.

Clippers usually speak well of others. I don’t believe LF would speak out against USA to appease Leonard and his camp. Leonard was getting rave reviews from the private workout before camp to full participant in the practices and all. The clips we saw he was moving like the healthy version. Then the night before the first game he’s out and all the stories changed he wasn’t looking so good and they didn’t think he’d be able to keep up to speed. It’s fishy but it is what it is.

If Frank did not participate in the decision to shut down Kawhi, then yeah he's got to speak up about to avoid a big issue with his star player. He's got to be straight with Kawhi for or against him playing, and if he was misrepresented afterwards by others then he needed to make that clear.

It might be more than just Nike vs. New Balance. It might be a Clipper thing. Their reputation took a major hit after George left, so Team USA saw the Clippers as hot garbage. What's ironic is that Tyronn Lue is still on Team USA, and if there was anyone looking to vouch for him it would have been Lue. If he didn't protect Leonard, then there may be a greater rift than initially realized, which could result in a very early Leonard trade. Remember, he is now eligible to be traded.

With PG gone and 213 already fading into memory unmourned, Ballmer still needs to open the BallmerDome with Kawhi. But come the trade deadline, yeah, who knows? If he's still healthy he might yet net a passel of picks and young talent. If not in 2025, in 2026.
