Markelle Fultz Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by SOUL » Wed Jul 17, 2024 6:45 pm

Well, with the Cory Jo signing, it means Fultz is gone. Arguably one of the most divisive players in Magic history. I know he has his detractors but hopefully this thread could be mostly... nice. (I know it won't lol).

He did have a few very solid years for us, brought us some hype.. battled back from injury/whatever issues, dealt with his own personal issues but I never recall any sort of problems with the front office, staff, or players. Was a great teammate to the guys and community. I think his story here would look different if we had better guards and he was just a backup, but yeah, that wasn't what happened.

All in all, while he was frustrating to cheer for at times, I can't lie and act like he didn't give us hype or glimpses of hope and solid play either.

Good luck, Fultz! I know some people think you'll go overseas but I think he'd fill a roll as a cheap vet guard for a team out there that hopefully doesn't need shooting lol. Go kill it!

I was stoked when we traded for him, the one bright spot in an otherwise miserable year. He got us on track in '23 and had a good year, all things considered.

Im disappointed that he won’t be back. The lack of creativity in the second unit is going to be a problem. I believe Fultz could’ve played a role in that with more shooters surrounding him.

I love that we traded for him and gave him a really, really fair shot to get his career back on track. I am sorry it didn't work out the way everyone hoped and rooted for, but no reason to be sad. Markelle has earned a substantial amount of money and with smart financial management it should set him and his family for life. I think he gave his best, all that he had actually, while wearing Magic uniform and wish him to enjoy his other interests, as Jokić would say.

I liked Markelle here from the jump. I hoped he would end up realizing all the potential he had, stardom didn’t come but for a couple years he played really well when he was feeling good. Unfortunately the injuries just kept him off the floor to build momentum off of. The guy put it the work, showed leadership and had some good moments he, that’s why I get so upset with the venom showed on these boards towards the guy. Best wishes Markelle, I hope success finds him at his next stop.

Is Fultz even going to be in NBA? What team is going to sign him?

I was a Fultz supporter....until this season. He was really bad and a negative on both ends. Sad really.

He really had a great season the year before last. It was super sad to see him fall back to his original form. I hope he finds a place with a ton of shooters, but I really doubt it. Seems like health issues got the better of him.

He really could have been something special.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Markelle as a person. Good dude. And kudos to him for fighting his way back from the issues that plagued him early in his career.

Just never liked the way his skill set fit into the modern NBA landscape, and I think even his very best was simply not good enough for a team that wanted to actually win at a high level.

I certainly didn't and still don't agree with the shockingly large number of people who truly believed he was way better than he actually was, but he didn't have anything to do with that and I hold no ill will whatsoever towards him. I'll cheer for him wherever he signs next.

Makes sense not to resign him considering his limitations.
That said even last season I admired his ballhandling skills. No one else on the team owns similar moves and is able to cruise through a clogged paint.
Wish you well, Markelle.

I am sure he was a good teammate, becouse we wouldnt keep him for so long if he didnt. He was polite, respectful and didnt create problems outside basketball.
With regards to basketball he was a disaster. He valued his own comfort zone more than his team, he couldnt take critique from others to improve, he couldnt even learn our defensive rotations.
Overall he gave more outside the court than on the court. We knew who we resigned so it was not his fault. He would be stupid to decline so much money.
Wish him and his family all the best.

He seem to be such a good guy. The players love him and I was always rooting for him to breakout. So sorry that his last year dealing with all the injuries and TOS. I hope the best for him. Good luck wherever you go and thank you for the memories.

At the time, I thought bringing Fultz to the Magic was a good move. I didn’t see it as something of a move to improve a lackluster offseason at the time. I thought that it would be a chance to come to a young Magic team and unlock potential related to his high draft status. It simply didn’t work as I expected. I was hoping that he would be a guy who would become a great distribution artist with some of the talent up front. I was completely wrong and it seemed to just not work out for him here. I wish him luck but he looks like a big bust now based on his draft position. I’m not sure if he can catch on this late in the offseason for anything other than the min or a worst of all maybe a two way deal.

You will be missed my dude! You embodied what the magic wanted to be and helped us get to where we are now. Wishing you the best and I'll be rooting for you wherever you end up!

Bittersweet it had to end this way but the writing was on the wall last season with the injuries and his level of play overall.

I appreciate his hard work on the team and his work in the Orlando community. Best of luck to him on whatever he decides to do for his career.

From start to finish his nba career has been trainwrack. Especially 76ers saga. In Orlando he was shielded from any critic, media, fans, medical reports, pressure, babied for 5 years. And what we got from all that ? Lost pick that somehow turned into Maxey.

He is probably good dude outside basketball, but as basketball player, by nba standards for PG, he simply has too many issues to be in rotation for more than 12-14 mpg.

Comes as no suprise he is yet to be signed by any NBA team. Hopefully later end of his career won't be as ugly as Payton's.

HIm and Bennett are now probably for sure going down as worst 1# picks of past 20 years.

As a person Fultz is such a badass. As a player he is de-valued in today's NBA. Still think FO wasted a year with him on the roster and would've taken 2nd's for him and let AB get actual minutes. Also would've allowed them to see Cole isn't anything special. 2 birds with 1 stone
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

If he was just a willing shooter and not repeatedly drive into a crowded contested paint killing our offense I'd been fine with him.
