Magic- Jazz

Post#1 » by MagicHolland » Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:28 pm

Let me start of by stating I don’t see the Magic do anything on the trade market. But playing with the trade machine I came up with the following. Truthfully I’m really not sure which way Utah is leaning, maybe you guys could fill me in..

Looking for more of a creative scorer of the bench and a shotblocking big for the Magic.

Kessler and Sexton for Carter jr and Black. Is that a basis for a solid deal?

For the Magic, sexton would be the 6th man and Kessler fights with Bitadze for starting C. Thoughts?

That is an insane overpay by Orlando, and makes no sense as long as we have Cole Anthony

Disagree that it's an insane overpay by the Magic, but fair if it's not the direction the Magic want to go.

Isn't Sexton a much better fit than Black? What do Magic fans see Black's role or ceiling going forward? Can he play next to Suggs?

Cole Anthony feels pretty irrelevant to the calculus, he's just not in a similar tier as Sexton - though, I can buy that Orlando doesn't want to trade their recent lottery pick so soon.

I would like the Magic to trade for Sexton, but Im not that interested in Kessler now that they re-signed Goga. Would prefer to keep Black, and would need to include Cole in the trade for Sexton. Something around Cole+assets (Howard/picks) for Sexton makes the most sense to me.

for a PG without handles or elite passing, who's really only skill is very good defense, seems to be untouchable by many Magic fans

I agree that Cole and picks is the easiest framework.

Good to see some different input. I do agree that with the addition of Sexton, Cole would be redundant (imo he is anyways, besides him being an awesome person/teammate).. I just don’t see the fit with the Jazz..

I think Kessler could thrive playing with Franz and especially Paolo.

Would that be of interest with the Jazz? I just don’t see the Magic parting with Cole because of his character..

I think it would be a reasonable offer, but if there is any player that embodies the kind of personality we (and reportedly the FO and coaching staff) want the team to have, it is Sexton. Doesn't mean he won't have his price, but IMO, he feels like Ainge's new 'Marcus Smart' in terms of setting culture. But say... Anthony, filler, DEN 1st + one more 1st seems totally reasonable to me as an offer.

Interesting! What are the Jazz’ intentions upcoming season? Enter the cooper sweepstakes?

I would hope that's the plan. Trade every veteran but Lauri, trade him if we get an overwhelming offer, finish bottom 4 preferably. I think if Sexton is gone that hurts our chances of winning games pretty dramatically.
