a couple of times every game, lexie hull will get the ball for an open 3 but instead chooses to dribbles into the paint only to overdribble into help. she'll quickly realize she can't get a clean look at the rim, so she'll attempt to pass the ball out, but she's already overdribbled into help so there's 6 hands in front of her and it's a turnover. like clockwork

Good point on not being able to set others up, I was a little appalled by her poor passing. Maybe she just had a very bad game. Mitchell didn't pass that well either, maybe she's out of practice.

I was calling for more Hull, but I have to admit, I look to be wrong. She has been brutal on offense. She can't create her own shot or set up others, which for me is shocking given that she is a guard who was a #6 pick. I mean, that's a mighty high selection for a 3&D player. And she's not making her 3s these days, either.

how much shot creation does she need to do on a team with clark?

She doesn't have much coaching experience, does she? I like Cheryl Miller, but I'm not sure I'd feel real confident about her getting the position.

Not often. But when she receives the ball on the weak side late in the shot clock, she has to be able to do something. Otherwise the team just loses the possession. Which is what has been happening, as Ghetto Gospel writes.

That said, I agree with your basic point. Clark and Boston don't need starts around them to succeed. High-quality role players will do the trick. Unfortunately, unless she starts hitting shots and making better decisions with the ball, Hull doesn't qualify.

CC skill differential from those around her is huge. I haven't seen much like this in any basketball league.

Looks to me like she’s been working really hard on her handle and breaking people down. It’s still not at the very top of the league, but it’s a really good sign that she’s improving in-season on something she wanted to and needed to work on.

The passing was already there. She’s been making reads and getting the ball to the right spot ahead of time for years. And her shooting is the next thing that needs to adjust, along with more strength in her legs. Those citing “dead legs” above are entirely correct.

I think they need a two way SG in the backcourt, and another wing that can defend and run the floor/hit threes

Yeah, they can probably keep Smith. She does do a lot of good things, but I was cranky with her last night. And maybe even they can work with Mitchell, who is at least an elite scorer, if not a defender. But they absolutely, positively need a 3&D wing, because they're getting killed at the #3 spot every game.

Watching the game against Dallas last night, I kept thinking about what the Fever would look like with Odyssey Sims playing 20 minutes a game as a combo guard off the bench, or even in three guard lineups depending on matchups. She's not necessarily a long term roster solution, but she was available and would have made them a lot better. I don't know if it could have worked out with regard to the salary cap and whatever guaranteed contracts they have (Wheeler's contract is a huge albatross), but I think it would have been great on the court.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

The All Star Game is, but we were talking about her being Fever coach. I don't think she has the experience for that, even if she has the Indy ties.

I don't think I could stomach watching that loss again. CC was amazing though.

Why am I just seeing this? I didn't realize you meant coach for the Fever.

Cheryl looked like she was having fun being around the gals. Maybe that experience gives her the itch to think about coaching for real.

That was a good game though and in hindsight, wow. Arike is a demon out there

Reportedly the Fever had their first practice after the break. Well, that was a short vacation.

Well, if it's true that Clark's legs were so gassed, maybe she could have used a longer break.

For Caitlin, they should be light practices -- more on tactics & teamwork, less on working out. Especially using legs on shots. For the rest, eh ... they are probably OK.
