I wonder how much having a dynamic scorer and passer Rob will affect Minott game. That unit with McLaughlin/NAW, Moore, Miller and Minott just could not score. The only reliable option has been Garza, but they really can benefit from having a ballhandler who can score.

The battle for minutes between Shannon, Miller and Minott is going to be fun.

Yes, I believe that playing time might be a good motivation. Anderson is gone, Ingles is more mentor than player.

Yeah, that is how I see it as well. Anderson was an emergency defender, when McDaniels got quick fouls. Minott can play this role right away, if he can defend on ball.

From Vando scouting report:
measured well for a modern four man at 6' 9 with a 7' 1 wingspan and an 8' 10 standing reach.

It looks like Minott and Vando have pretty similar measurements and athleticism, Josh has registered 38.5" vertical jump while JV had 39.5". I remember Josh being a bit slow last SL, but if Minott added low body strength without losing quickness he should follow Vando path to become a rotation players: fight for 50/50 rebounds, hustle, rotate properly. Minott was around 200lbs two years ago, ideally he should add 15-20lbs to be able to fight against big wings, forwards

This has been my biggest concern with Minott but I'd never seen it mentioned so was starting to think I should ignore my lying eyes. Glad to see I'm not the only one who's seen it.

Minott has good instincts for defense in a team concept but whenever I watch him he seems to get instantly beaten by any half decent offensive player in the G League. He can often recover, which likely leads to a lot of his highlights, but if he's getting beat at the NBA level that's going to cause so many more issues than its worth.

I am trying to think of any players who didn't play at all the first two years but eventually developed into a rotation player and can't think of many. There is Vanderbilt and Jerami Grant. Naz is undrafted but he played well enough to be in the rotation in his second year. I think the first half of the season is the end of the road for him. If he can't beat out a player for minutes at the start of the season, he is done. I really don't see him getting any minutes at this point.

Question #2 is ....can he make a shot outside of a dunk? I haven't seen any proof of that. Over 2 years he's only taken 16- 3 pt shots mostly in garbage time. He made 6 of them. I'm not convince on Minott. He has a lot to show me to make me a believe.

From what I've seen he is decent enough to make an open three point shot. I mean he is certainly better than Vando, but the difference is that Vando can defend PF/SF and rebound and Vando has hands of stone he cant finish around rim with finesse move. Minott has better hands. But it is his onn and off ball defense that secures him minutes in rotation.

Can he just play McDaniels role as 5th option on the floor: hit corner threes, crash offensive board and defend PF/SF? I think he bulked enough to battle in paint, but he is a bit slow sliding feet and rotating hips in defense. But the size and athleticism are there.

I think Vanderbilt is more likely

I honestly expect Minott to be given as many minutes as he can this week and then they'll attempt to trade him. He's bulked up and is certainly active but there's just no room for his game on this team right now. Shannon will likely take Kyle's minutes from Jingles within the first 20 games and that'll be that.

Crash the boards...i wish. McD has two faults, he can't stay on the floor due to fouls and he is a terrible rebounder for a guy of his height and athleticism. His offensive game is slowly coming along. He has to be a much better rebounder. The staff knows it too and will be working with him on it.

This is true. I, however, give McDaniels a little bit of a break because it is much much more difficult to defensive rebound when you are covering the other teams primary ball handler 100% of the time he’s on the court. He can do better though, especially on the offensive glass.

He also hit two c&s threes.

So basically this is what I want to see from Minott:

- be acitve on the glass, fight for position, rebound
- run in transition
- moves his feet in defense, switch on some wings and big guards
- execute timely rotation in defense, offer some weakside rim protection
- hit open corner threes
- dont dribble

Like Dillingham, Josh Minott showed more of what you hoped to see as summer league went along. He’s still a bit all over the place — but you kinda gotta be able to get all over the place to make plays like this, which he had numerous of in Vegas.

Minott is still only 21 — almost two years younger than Ant and almost three years younger Shannon — and he’s still on the equivalent of a non-guaranteed minimum contract for the next two seasons.

He's an excellent FT shooter. Why can't he shoot live.

Mechanics are not the same at all. You have 10 seconds at the line and your motion is really different.

Ricky was a decent free throw shooter, never really became a good shooter overall.
