Im not qualified to assess the athletic differences between Andre and Marjon but one thing i do know is that Marjon is tentative while Andre just goes. Theres a reason that scene of Andre skying over Marjon on the putback dunk resonated w many of us. It perfectly illustrated that difference.

Im cool with us being the 3 or 4 seed if we use this time to develop our two youngsters. Im not giving up on Marjon.

I see Dre's now listed as questionable for the next game with lower back spasms. That sucks.

Do you think he has what it takes for the (horrible) dunk contest?

That's why he was unavailable after his initial 12 minute stint.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

This is....pretty cool. Especially when you consider that scoring gravity (of which Jackson has very little right now compared to a guy like Wemby) is factored in.

Reviving the thread for some nice highlights.

Offence whatever. His key to rotation minutes is consistent good defence without fouling.

Video should also serve as a reminder that there is offensive value in a player who converts misses into makes, even if he does nothing else offensively (which is not the case).

Was the fouling really that bad?

A: Yes, yes it was.

Of players with at least 500 minutes, AJJ was 2nd worst in fouls/36. Here's the list:

Isaiah Jackson C 6.4
Andre Jackson Jr SG 5.8
Bruno Fernando C 5.6
Zeke Nnaji PF C 5.1
Day'Ron Sharpe C 5.1
6-10: All centers

In the past 10 seasons, only one backcourt player amongst qualified players (Kelly Oubre 5.4, 2015-16) averaged more than 5.0 fouls/36. The fouling from AJJ wasn't just bad; it was historically bad. I really like the rest of his game, but the fouling issue will be a big mountain to climb.

Fun/weird tiny sample size stat of the day. Andre shot 75% on mid-range shots (9/12). The jumper still looks completely broken though. He's gonna need to develop some sort of floater/push shot if he ever wants to be a non-liability. I'm just not seeing much of a path to him being useful if we continue to not let him handle the ball.

I think with foul rates it’s important to parse out whether the player is seeking out contact or trying to shy away from it. If it’s the former, which I think Dre falls into, I generally see it as a good sign for a young player.

Of course he has to clean it up, but i think it hits at a good mentality - He plays with physicality and challenges shots. So often we’ll project players as good defenders due to physical tools and then when they get into the league they just never play with that nasty streak and shy away from contact.

I’m hoping we see his steal and block rates jump this year, though, because with his energy and athleticism they really should be higher.

yeah, i dont care about his foul rates at the the minutes hes playing. its not a topic worth discussing until hes regularly in the rotation and it still a problem.

I'll worry about his foul rate when he starts getting enough minutes for it to matter. Before that happens, we should figure out that putting the best passer on your team in the corner makes no sense, and as much or more than his defense, that's the skill that's going to surface his value.

I'm assuming the foul rate is a big reason why he's not in the rotation. I would also agree that ragged garbage time minutes are a contributing factor. Even then, his foul rates were higher than Thanasis. :o

The foul rate isn't a problem because he is going to foul out of the game. It is because they are not smart use of your fouls usually. To do it in order to stop transition play is ok. To send a bad shooter to the line and prevent a dunk good again. But his fouls are mostly pressing guards and wings.

He should try to model his defence after Derrick.Jones Jr. They have same weight, AJax is an inch taller but with an inch shorter arm, so should have same ability.

Its cool, and refreshing given the rest of our roster, but does PEST include any measure of success or failure or is it strictly aggression?
