Knicks Checked In On Clint Capela

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 19, 2024 12:34 pm

The New York Knicks checked with the Atlanta Hawks on the trade availability of center Clint Capela. It's unclear how deep those conversations got, but New York is known to be searching for additional depth at the center position.

One challenge in acquiring Capela is his $22.3 million salary for this season. The Knicks would have to part with at least one rotation player to add Capela via trade.

New York lost Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency. That's left the Knicks with the talented, but injury-prone Mitchell Robinson and third-stringer Jericho Sims as the team's centers.

Easy solution: sign Achiuwa to the vet minimum on a four year deal, team option for the fourth year. It’ll be like 4years, $13 million.

Doubt he's taking a 4 year vet minimum deal. Maybe he does a 1 year and a player option and then test the market again next year. He'll have plenty of opportunity to show he's a rotation player in this league. I don't think he's really a Center, but he's my favorite option readily available.

The Knicks are obviously looking for another Center. Any of us could write this stuff. At this point, any news story including the Knicks is just pure speculation. If theres a potential Center on the market, the Knicks have probably turned that stone over but this front office has been extremely tight lipped and almost all of their moves haven't had any substantial rumors behind them. From our drafts to signings, to trades, all of these transactions come out of left field. I'd almost say, if theres a report out there, then that door has probably already been closed.

Fact is; they have the tax payers MLE to work with and then vet minimums to add a backup Center. If it's a trade it would probably be for someone that is making less than 6 million dollars and would include McBride and/or our 2 weirdly protected picks from Wiz and Pistons.

If Robinson gets another serious injury, or we get off to a really bad start, then maybe something bigger will happen and moving one of our core players might need to happen, but at this point I expect us to run with what we got.

Robinson(26)/OG(22)
Randle(36)/Hart(12)
OG(12)/Hart(14)/Bridges(22)
Bridges(12)/Divincenzo(26)
Brunson(36)/McBride(12)

Then we also have Payne, Sims, Kolek, Bates-Diop, Dadiet under contract and Hukporti on a two way that will all get situational minutes. Would love to bring back Achiuwa and slot him in as our 9th rotation player and cut some of OG's and Robinsons minutes back in the regular season. Then for that last spot either another veteran like Covington, Thad Young or Biyombo, or a younger guy that still has some more potential like Poku, Orlando Robinson, Emoni Bates. I also really like Oshae Brissett and Lamar Stevens, but not really sure of their fits on this team unless we don't bring back Achiuwa.
Go Knicks!

By easy solution I assume you mean it was easy to type without thinking? 0 chance he or anyone similar signs a 4 yr veteran minimum and then the 4th yr a team option lol are they holding a gun to his head to force him to sign?
