A different (I swear) Lauri to GSW deal (Wiggins to DAL, Green to LAL)
Teams have enough draft rights to players to send around to satisfy that they connect with each team in the trade - that feels pretty inconsequential to add. I've worked hard to make this work with Golden State and Dallas hard capped at the first apron and LAL hard capped at the second apron...and...I think everything works. If the math is slightly off Utah has its BAE and other TPEs to absorb some additional salary ($3 million from Fontecchio, there would be 1.6 million remaining from the Olynyk TPE, and a little over $2 million remaining in our MLE).
GSW trade: Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II (into UTA MLE), Moses Moody (into Olynyk UTA TPE), 2026 GSW 1st, 2028 GSW 1st, 2030 GSW 1st (20-30 protected, otherwise to Washington), 2025 pick swap (GSW receives worst of UTA/GSW/MIN/CLE 1sts), 2027 pick swap (GSW receives worst of UTA/GSW/MIN/CLE/LAL 1sts)
in: Lauri Markkanen, Daniel Gafford
Golden State sends out $71 million in salaries and takes back about $30 million. This pulls them far enough under the cap to renegotiate and extend Lauri. Curry/Podz/Kuminga/Lauri/Gafford.
LAL trades: Jared Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Maxwell Lewis
in: Draymond Green
Green is much older than Vanderbilt, but he's also just much better. Russell/Reaves/LeBron/Davis/Green.
DAL trades: Maxi Kleber, Daniel Gafford, Olivier Maxence-Prosper
in: Andrew Wiggins
Dallas gets a POA defender to insert into their rotation. Irving/Wiggins/Luka/Washington/Lively.
UTA trades: Lauri Markkanen
in: Jared Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Gary Payton II (into UTA MLE), Maxi Kleber, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Moses Moody (into UTA TPE), Maxwell Lewis, Olivier Maxence-Prosper, 2026 GSW 1st, 2028 GSW 1st, 2030 GSW 1st (20-30 protected, otherwise to Washington), 2025 pick swap (GSW receives worst of UTA/GSW/MIN/CLE 1sts)
(in: 41,356,383 in initial trade - 18,044,544 salary of Lauri = $23,311,839 of Utah's $23,900,015 = $600k difference, waiving Darius Bazely before his guarantee date creates $1.5 million in cap space so the deal works!!)
Utah gets 2 unprotected 1sts, 1 weirdly protected 1st, and two swaps it will likely be able to exercise. They also add 4 players on their rookie deals, 3 of which are at our weakest position (wing) even if they aren't *the best* prospects there. They cut Vincent, Payton, and Kleber so they can go sign with contenders and probably look to flip Vanderbilt. After cutting Bazely, that makes this trade a 5:2 deal, so they also cut Lofton and Juzang and will need to find a consolidation trade somewhere.

An interesting deal from an asset perspective, but the Warriors aren’t trading Draymond. As much as adding Lauri will do for the Warriors offense, defense is going to be tricky. Without Draymond, it’s hopeless imo
Be shocked if Dallas ready to move Gafford so soon too.

Would Vanderbilt for Looney as part of it help? He's a pretty fantastic defender and when he was with Utah was primarily a perimeter defender (honestly, I really loved him and would love him back in Utah, lol). For reference, his DBPM the last 3 seasons has been between 1.4 and 1.6 - which is around where the very good defenders live. Draymond has been between 2.6 and 4.3, which is where only a few guys ever are (basically, Draymond, Gobert, Davis, etc.). I feel like defense by committee with Vanderbilt/Gafford/Anderson/Melton could be average.

Would Dallas include some incentive to get Kessler in this?

The Warriors are not getting Lauri Markkanen without giving up one of Jonathan Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski. Danny Ainge is not that motivated to move off of Lauri as of now and the Spurs/Thunder could outbid the Warriors offer as currently constructed if they choose to do so.

I don't think this is legal for Lakers. They'd have $3m under 1st apron to bring in 2 more players to meet minimum 14 man roster.

Seems like that would be remedied by sending Wood into the remainder of the Olynyk TPE which would leave $6 million for 3 players.

Maybe that can go to Utah and some other incentive from Dallas to send Kessler to Dallas. I think that could balance the deal a bit better.

1) We've seen such a wide range of reports about what Utah is asking for and Golden State is offering - from Kuminga and picks (how many?), to Podz and picks (how many?), to Kuminga and Podz and every pick Golden State has, to filler and picks (how many?), to Moody and a couple of picks, etc.
2) IMO, the debate is about what is 'fair' value that both teams might accept. I think if Golden State puts this much pick capital on the table the value is good. The other issue is that San Antonio and OKC can't renegotiated Lauri's contract. Here, Golden State is generating cap space and presumably Lauri is signaling that he will extend with them.
3) we don't know where Lauri will resign, or if he is signaling that he won't unless he gets an R+E - a la Siakam

There is no reason for the Jazz to consider this. It doesn't feature the young talent they are looking for, and I'm certain they could get multiple firsts for Lauri without having to cut half their team, and take back a poo poo platter of other teams guys. No thank you.

If it was Powell instead of Prosper.. and Kessler to Dallas.. Then I think Dallas probably owes a 2025 swap?
I think OP feels pretty bad for Dallas. If Wiggins was positive value, Dallas wouldn’t be needed. And I think Dallas’ package is positive value.
Think the Dallas/GSW/Utah deal could be made to work in real life, GSW wouldn’t be able to renegotiate and extend Lauri but they would rather keep Dray anyways. The LAL part feels a step too far.

Pass for DAL, I was all for taking a flyer on Wiggins but not with positive value and rotation piexe like Gafford, the ship has also sailed after signing Marshall.

I doubt Dallas would give that much up for Wiggins even without OMP. Lakers should be sending out Rui instead of Hood, Vincent, and Lewis. Probably with a couple 2 2nds but I doubt GSW has interest in trading Draymond. Respect the creativity.

Is GS going into a full rebuild with this? The defense would be atrocious.

The original deal does not make enough sense to the Mavs. The Mavs ain't going to lose all frontcourt depth while contending. I am not so sure the Mavs pay incentives to rent Klesser. And GSW fans really want to bench Klay. I can't happen business wise. But I do like the way Wiggins playing defense.

Wiggins definitely is better than DJJ or even DFS.
