Not sure what would make you think that? He was rumored to be in the offer for Bridges. He’s 23 and still can get better elsewhere.

Are you new to how rebuilds work?

New to how rebuilds work...? I'm probably one of the longer tenured Nets fans here... I've practically lived through a lifetime of perpetual rebuilding

The Nets were going to waive Diakite, the fact they extracted some semblance of value out of him is miraculous (that value being the pick and not Smith who quote frankly has no value and hasn't been the same since his injuries...).

Because of where Smith was drafted and his age he'll get a shot to compete for a spot, but he's far from a roster lock...

This is the original Sean Marks M.O. of "fallen angels" / players.needing a second or third chance.

Yea there may be nothing there but nets still need roster a lineup for this season so might as well see if there’s anything there.

He should have been living in a gym trying to get better and get paid.
Bouknight was a trainwreck of pretty epic proportions. He would not have worked anywhere. He'll never get an NBA contract again, and just based on his body language on the court, it wouldn't shock me if he just pocketed the $13M he made from the Hornets and just never played basketball ever again.

He played the most low-effort shot chucking garbage minutes when he did get playing time, blew up at Borrego mid-game and walked out of a game, got kicked out of a UCONN game soon after, got 3 extreme speeding tickets, a second DUI (after getting one in college)... all in his first 12 months in the NBA, while providing absolutely nothing but 35% from the field volume scoring.

I think it was pretty clear by November of his sophomore season he wasn't fixable. He's incredibly lucky that the deadline for rookie contract options is like a week into the season rather than a couple months, otherwise he probably doesn't even get his year 3 option picked up.

Though Memphis has done well in the draft recently, this was a bad miss.

They could have picked Trey Murphy, Corey Kispert, Alperen Sengun, or Jalen Johnson; all better fits on this team. Instead, they traded Murphy and a few other players to move up and get Ziaire (along with Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe). Now none of those players are on this team.

Zaire was a 5 star recruit in school. It was a high risk high - reward type of selection. Should he had been picked up in 2nd round like GG Jackson his development might have taken a different route as he would have been assessed against the lower bar, not Franz Wagner.

Not to mention the rumour has it that Memphis FO targeted another player when they traded for #10..
