So while we could say that the eye test should trump stats in SL, we could equally say that SL isn't always a great indicator of NBA prowess. Oh and that it's always easier to bet on failure in prospects.

True for the most part. In MarJon's case we have 3 years of summer league and 100 NBA games.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Seems like my idea of drafting both Kolek and Oso was the safest play ever posted here, in order to have high floor start from your rookies.

No way on earth would I rather have Kolek over AJ Johnson **** the high floor for rookies. We need to hit on some potential star players the free agents we got this year will take care of the play this year.

It was reported, very vaguely, after the season.

Please direct me to this reporting when you have a chance.

Still waiting btw

I wasn't specifically talking about Marjon, more just the assertion that apparently none of our players have NBA skills.

I agree with Marjon, I hope for more but his confidence has been rapidly evaporated.

Lets not act like AJ Green is a NBA rotation player yet. Seen some flashes but has to prove himself as an every day player.

For me the only one that has shown flashes of being a special player is AJ Johnson I like green and Livingston.
Green will get first shot at playing this year but I wouldn’t be shocked if AJ Johnson is playing more by the playoffs and his shot looks really good. Livingston needs to keep working on his shot like his size and rebounding. Will be interesting to see them in training camp with the vets.

at BEST, he's a shorter Sam Houser. that's at best. he is currently not Sam Houser. but i am guilty of letting this community's unhinged love for that guy cloud my vision of the value he presents at times. he was an undrafted player, he could be a rotation player for us. that's something to be happy about.

Sam Hauser can't keep guards in front of him, so no, I don't agree with that.

i honestly would not be surprised by anything when it comes to AJ. i kind of lean on the side of protecting him this season. let him get his strength up, put on some pounds, and then face that next season. but i've also seen us trot out far lesser players in the regular season. it can work if he plays within himself and focuses more on creating separation to shoot from range rather than drive the hole. he is obviously not ready for NBA level paint traffic, both the complexities and the size and strength waiting for him.

let him work his full game with the herd and close out the blowouts with the big boys. that's easy enough.

At Johnson's age and lankiness, you really don't expect the kind of speed, agility, balance, explosion you see from him. He is highly skilled, highly competitive, physically gifted while still developing, and seems to have a good understanding of the game (for his age). You couldn't check many more boxes as a 19 year old prospect without starting to touch the elite tier of no-doubters. He looks like a very, very strong prospect to me.

Spot minutes this year, next year he's in the rotation.

what exactly are you saying, you think he's as good as Hauser is right now all things considered? Hauser just played about 15 min per game in the finals, for the team that won the finals. If you think AJ Green is capable of that, we are in great shape.

For this season, I have it as

1 Dre
2 Dairy
3 Livingston
4 AJ Johnson

Dairy is the more conventional player compared to Dre, and with that easier to project his role, but from younger guys I’m still looking for flashes. I think Dre flashed with the more impactful stretches in the playoffs.

Beyond that, I think Livingston has a chance to crack into the rotation as a small-ball 4 this year for us if everything goes right. I absolutely love combo forwards who are willing to play the 5. We’re dangling that archetype in front of him, and I think he’s got the right mentality for it. Those guys end up being tough as ****, like PJ or Draymond, and really hard to replace.

As for AJ Johnson, I think his talent might be high enough that he could surprise a lot of people with decent playing time this year. He’s the most naturally talented player we’ve drafted since Giannis. If he has the right mentality, those players tend to demand minutes.

Longer term I have AJ Johnson number 1 with the same order after that. Livingston may surpass Dairy, but it’s close either way. Smith would fall in after those 4, and I’m not really interested in any of the others. I hope Marjon could prove me wrong, but we’ve talked about him plenty here, and I just don’t see it happening.

I still can’t get that euro step blown play out of my head for a couple reasons.

1) Because I’m struggling to think of guards, even at the highest levels of the NBA, who could have actually pulled that off in traffic, with the gracefulness, bounce, and deceleration that AJ showed.

And

2) for Vin missing the wide open dunk.

Well, I was saying I don't agree that shorter Sam Hauser is his ceiling because he can do things that Sam can't do.

The new question is whether I think he's capable of playing 15mpg in the Finals for us, and I think he is, though I suspect with the current roster we wouldn't need him to and he wouldn't.

It's due to never drafting in the lottery, something that happens because the Bucks have had winning teams for the entirety of Horst's tenure. 65% winning percentage. Division winners the last six years.

Maybe they'd have winning summer league teams if they hadn't traded for guys like Jrue Holiday, but they wouldn't have won a title either.

Certainly drafting late and only getting a first rounder every other year is a huge part, but not the only part. Horst has been upfront that he has tried to draft athletes, rather than skills.

His description of his draft picks the last three drafts is virtually the same.

Bumping the 2 19 year olds up because of the room for growth on top of what they've shown. Wish we had seen more of Besson because I do think there's a chance he moves himself up with more playing time.
