Biff Cooper wrote:Obviously, Minnesota brain trust does not consider reserve PG to be a huge need. We do have quite a few players throughout the lineup that are solid ball-handlers for their position. Maybe they feel we can figure out how to play without a PG if we get in an injury pinch. Dillingham is going to get quite a bit of PT too.

I guess we need to trust our leadership that they know what they are doing. I'd assume they will invite a few more PG in for training camp deals and maybe give them the 14th or 15th roster spot if they prove themselves capable.

Wolves had the 5th worst offense of the teams that were actively trying to win last year
big part of that was how bad the team was when Conley wasn't on floor

Too dangerous for the locker room?

He's signing with Denver.

Yeah, they been saying that for ten days. Starting to wonder.

Or, there is one ex Utah Jazz player who is not signed yet. He spent his first seven seasons with UTA, averaging 15.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.4 APG, 44% FG, 37% 3pt
Do you really believe John Stockton has anything left in the tank?

Because he knows (rightfully) that his worth is over the NBA minimum, but other teams either don't have the money to pay him, don't have the role available to him, or don't have the desirable team/market for him.

He will likely end up re-signing in Washington.

I think he started free agency holding out for three things: to get paid, be a starter, and play for a winning team. He waited too long and now he probably has to settle for one of those things. His choice looks to be either sign a minimum deal with contender to come off the bench, or go back to Washington for more money (but still far less than what he hoped for).

Sign and trade is still possible. It’s not likey Tyus gets a bag, but it’s not impossible.

I'm not currently seeing a team that would be a likely destination. Maybe a starting PG gets hurt and Tyus is brought in as a replacement.

I would’ve thought the Clippers if they had more draft picks. PJ’s expiring contract is a pretty perfect match.

I somewhat expected Jones to end up with the Clippers, but now that they traded for Kris Dunn that door seems closed.

If the Hornets waive Reggie Jackson, we might be a good opportunity for him on the minimum.

Not my favorite player, but he would be a nice plan if Dillingham can’t contribute immediately.

I probably should have posted this here

shrink wrote:Free agent Gary Trent Jr was looking for $25 mil a year, but with all the free agent money drying up, he just signed with the Bucks for the vet min! Horrible work by his agent, but the Bucks can offer him lots of minutes on a contender, to keep his name in front of NBA executives for a new deal next summer.

I sure hope MIN is talking to Tyus Jones, asking him where he’d like to spend the next year.

The reason that Jones hasn’t found a home isn’t because there’s anything wrong with him. He was a league leader is AST/TO again, and his 3P 41.4% led to an eFG% of .569, both the best of his career. The only problem is that there just aren’t any teams that need a PG. Teams either have their vet starter in place, or have invested a young lottery pick hoping he blossoms. Spending a year on the Timberwolves, behind Mike Conley, would likely guarantee Jones minutes and starts.

I love Tyus as a player. I think adding him would block Dillingham and to some extent NAW’s development. I think the Wolves should be willing to sacrifice maximizing their ability to win regular season games to develop the ceiling. This doesn’t come without risk.

If we can get Tyus on a vet minimum we have to do it.

Getting Jones on a one year deal would be a massive win for the Wolves. After watching Summer league, I don't think Dillingham is anywhere close to being ready to be a positive contributor. Letting Rob gradually work to earn minutes would be a much better plan than throwing him out there when he's not ready, especially when there isn't much of any fallback plan.

I think Dilly is close to being ready to be a positive contributor and will be sooner than later. However, I'm still in favor of Tyus if we can get him ridiculously cheap.

Dillingham being a positive contributor is extremely unlikely his rookie season, the only real question in my mind is just how much of a negative he will be. The number of rookies in general who are net positives on the court is very small and with Dillingham's age and size challenges it would be shocking if he is one of them.

How are you gauging his being a net positive or negative? By +/- or what. I believe he can a positive contributor and even if he is net - he can be positive by being better than who we would use instead of him.

Tyus will be the perfect player to play with Mike and Ant. Hope we can get him on a good deal and promise him big money for later.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
