Plus the two first round picks! I’d pull the trigger on this.

If a not a bad deal for the Griz at all. This could be a trade that works for both teams.

Some of these people never watched JJJ play before. Randle > JJJ

4 DPOY level players in the starting lineup.
That would be so fun to watch.

Huff looks intriguing, underrated like iShart was?
He has this all around game in the g-league, it's stated he's a "rim protector" with 3 blocks, but he's in the G-League.
What's the story? Does his individual defense suck? Does he get pushed around by the bigger/faster/stronger players in the NBA, so his offensive game is a mirage?

what a ridiculous trade proposal. as if. i know this one is from heavy but i've seen similarly bad "ideas" from people at the athletic. we have journalists now whose articles are nothing more than the worst posts on this forum.

KAT is a superior player to Randle
And he will make less than whatever contract demands Randle currently has.
randle has legit played batter than kat the past like 3 years let’s be real
46% playoffs TS and 12 DNPs
U be real

Hard to knock the defense. Defensively as a PF he's probably in the same category as OG at SF. Very versatile, rotates well, can guard multiple places and positions. Offensively? Jackson has one of the oddest (ugliest) shooting forms in the NBA so he's not really going to help you there as a perimeter threat. His offensive post moves are also a bit rudimentary and clumsy, getting a lot of his points off of put backs and rim running.
Defensively he's obviously significantly better than Randle but I don't think the offense is as close as some are saying it is. The "gap" between Randle and Jackson defensively (from a metaphysical standpoint) is probably greater than between Randle and Jackson offensively so there's that for Jackson. But let's not get carried away.
As far as contracts go Jackson's contract is smaller, at least for this year and next. Then both players will be open for giant contracts. Both Randle and Jackson can qualify for the supermax. Randle based on years of service and Jaren based on winning another DPOY or getting on an All-NBA team. Randle has already shown he'd be willing to take less. Jackson has not.
What's interesting is that Randle as the best player managed to get his team to the playoffs while with Jackson as the Grizzlies defacto "best player" for all but the 9 games Morant played last season, the Grizzlies were vying for the no.1 pick in the lottery. So yeah I get the notion that Randle has his warts but so does Jackson. Wait, let me guess, Jackson has valid excuses right?
Ultimately it may be about fit. You could argue that Jackson fits better especially with the addition of Mikal Bridges giving the Knicks a viable no.2 option (something that they lacked when Randle went out for the season).

Re: Trades and Transactions thread cont - we still need a center
JJJ has the same roster fit issue Julius does but because of different reasons. You can't play JJJ at C just like you can't play Julius at C... It's not unfathomable to me that a team would prefer Julius to JJJ and I actually would agree that Julius is a better player on the whole.
The question really becomes on what you value fit-wise. If you want a secondary creator who gives you good rebounding and streaky shooting then Julius is a good fit. If you want great versatile defense and streaky shooting then JJJ is your guy.
I think that trade makes both teams worse tbh. Knicks need Julius's creation as we saw last year. JJJ just can't create offense or buoy bench lineups in a way that Julius can when he's firing on all cylinders. Knicks have enough defense that adding JJJ to the mix doesn't really change the outlook for them on that end IMO.
Memphis has Ja and Bane who can do a lot of heavy lifting on offense. They desperately need JJJ's mobility and help defense if they're going to start Morant and Edey at point guard and center.

Melo, I also don't know if they realize how oft-injured JJJ is. And this is with Memphis playing him on a minute restriction for the past couple of years. Not to mention that he regressed last year. He may bounce back this year, but I don't trust that.

Think you made lots of strong points.
I like the analogy of OG and Jackson. People are blasting JJJ for not having the offensive skills, but OG has shown what a strong defender with range can do. Jackson isn't as great a shooter, but he can stretch the floor. Jackson and Randle would probably pair well together, if Jackson could play more minutes at the 5. Jackson would probably be an amazing fit with guys like Jokic too. Lots of value in that.
I also agree that it's about fit. To me, Jackson + two 1sts for Randle is a steal for the Knicks, but the Knicks are the past the point of thinking about value. When we gave up 5 1sts for Mikal, we basically said we were in the championship hunt, value be damned. It's very hard to take a step back because we are all in. Brunson needs a 2. We already have good 3&D guys and defenders.
If I did this type of deal and Memphis really wanted Randle that bad, my next call would be to Utah, to try and see if we can flip JJJ and those picks to get Kessler and Markannen.

Jesus, I’ve read about this happening with Jordan in the 80’s & 90’s, but modern day? And for a player the caliber of JJJ? You really can’t believe anything anymore
