It feels like the team has treated the last few summer leagues as if they're noon ball games at some random Y gym. Just a disorganized mess. We were 0-5 and had a negative -18.0 ppg Diff, the worst of any team.
I think the organization should be embarrassed. You'd like to hope Doc would have organized and run this thing. But I think he went back to golfing with Larry David after a day one appearance.
but why would you prioritize winning in summer league? doesnt that seem like the exact opposite of what a franchise should be prioritizing over 5 games each summer?
id think youd try to get guys youd want to take a look at both on and off the court. interact with them. eat with them. watch them socialize. keep them healthy. as for play tell them a few simple specific goals youd like to see on the court the way they do in showcase ball for the kids. showcase softball for my daughters they didnt even keep score. college coaches were looking more at skill and body language and didnt want players to be influenced by strategy or coaches trying to win games with such a short window to evaluate
i guess even for example..... at the combine why is it we never hear about which guys led their teams to victory? is that a goal there as well? dudes are trying to put up numbers and showcase themselves. teams are all for it too id imagine.
but franchises grabbing guys youd have no intention or interest in longterm and then expecting them to gel and play team ball just to "construct a 5 game winner" in summer league seems kind of crazy to me
