That was fun. Of course we missed the entire play during the broadcast since the network did the stupid cutaway interview thing. If you're going to skip the game, at least have the decency to show a replay. :banghead:

Yep. She picks up some TOs making passes like that, but the payoff when she completes them is so high that the mistakes are worth it. Hitting a reammate on the move to the rim almost always means a busket or FTs.

CC is such an adorable dork lol

She really loves Maya man. And just imagine some little girl out there right now is being inspired by her and will follow her footsteps. It's beautiful

For me, Carlos Alcaraz is a useful comparison. Both Carlos and CC were immediately embraced by casual fans. Before Carlos even won a major, he was the most popular teenage player since Nadal and was being assigned to Court #1. CC, I need not tell you about.

Both were popular for the same reasons. They had creative and aggressive attacking games that aimed to overwhelm their opponents, played with no apparent fear. and followed their most spectacular plays with on-court celebrations. They also were gracious off the court.

And both have at times been underrated by expert fans -- the ones who follow the sports closely. I went onto a tennis board 18 months ago and read posts from people who clearly knew a lot of things about tennis that Alcaraz would be a one-hit wonder. They listed a whole bunch of reasons that sounded well researched. Since that time, Alcaraz has won Wimbledon, then the French Open, then Wimbledon again. Just as before CC entered the WNBA I read stuff about how her game wouldn't translate, that she would be OK but not special. (One guy wrote that it was "insane" to believe that CC would ever be as good as Kelsey Plum.)

Sometimes, the casual fans instinctively recognize things that the veteran fans do not, because the veterans are overthinking the matter. (Or, in some cases, they are letting their fandom for other players cloud their judgements, as a lot of the Alcaraz bashers would in the next sentence tell you how he would never be another Federer/Djokovic.)

it seemed to me that lot of the "hating" that went towards CC had more to do with some idea that she doesn't deserve to come into a league she didn't help build and take over as face of it.

Maybe. I am only guessing about the underlying motivation. I am just saying, I read more than one analysis from a veteran women's basketball fan that explained to newbies like me how we were wrong, and that Clark was just another good player, not a special one.

Yeah, that probably was a carry. But you don't often get whistled for that these days, at least not in the men's game.

CC is the best player to ever play in the WNBA. The reasons her peers and the league as a whole hate on her is blatantly obvious but they need to get over it because she is their best bet to ever get paid.

She’s already the best women’s player I’ve ever seen. She has Lebrons/Magics vision at 22. The Olympic snub was laughably blatant.

Has anyone seen Steve Nash recently?

Are we sure he's not masquerading as a 22 year old phenom?

One of the announcers yesterday called Clark the best/most special (I don't remember which) player not just in the WNBA, but in all of basketball. Hmmm ... Wemby? I think even the biggest Clark supporters might agree that there is at least an argument to be made for him.

Or maybe not. We shall see what this thread says.

they also said she might be the most popular US-born basketball player playing when lebron and curry retire which would be kind of crazy to think about

I missed that comment, but it might be correct. I think only Durant is a true challenger. But he's old, too. For sure CC is bigger to mainstream sports audiences than any US born player who is in his 20s.

How is CC's rookie year going to go?

Post#300 » by sikma42 » Sat Aug 17, 2024 4:52 pm

CC has gotten so much better reading defenses since the beginning of the season. Imo she is a top 10 player in the league and will probably be top 5 next year.

As far as point guards, imo she is the best in the league. Another thing tho, the Fever are a talented roster and they should make the playoffs. They have 3 legit All Stars starting…

With that said, Stewie is the best player I’ve seen. She is just a winning basketball player. She just fits in wherever team needs on a given day…but she could easily score a lot more.
