Re: Woj: Nembhard extends 3/$59m
So much for all the Pacers fans thinking he was worth more than his eligible extension
Good deal for both sides. Nembhard gets life-changing money and the Pacers aren't locked into him for 4 years if he never improves.
Basically Malik Monk/Josh Hart money.

Good on him locking up life changing money. Good on the Pacers knowing what his cost will be and having him locked up. Feels win/win

Good for nembhard to keep it at 3 yrs instead of 4 to reach FA sooner/when cap is higher. Pacers basically did the Turner thing again to add on 2 more years of control. Not bad

what changed was the amount of his max extension. his max was based on a league average and the league calculated that amount higher than most projected. we weren't wrong when we thought he was worth more than the projected max as he did get more than that.

So much for people thinking Brunson was worth a max

But seriously, Nembhard is now on a 4/$61m contract. That’s insanely cheap. Probably easy to see that Nembhard sacrificed something here and he likely could have gotten more in free agency, no?

Um, not sure your attempt to dunk on Pacers fans makes sense here. He got the maximum he was allowed to sign for over 3 years. The only amount he "left on the table" was not signing the 4th year. And one could argue that it benefits him more than the team to leave the 4th year off because he gets to hit free agency sooner.
The fact that he got every penny he could sign for over 3 years though seems to imply that he was in face worth more than his eligible extension if there wasn't an artificial limit on it.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on his level of play over the next 2 years. His age isn't on his side in terms of ceiling. Most players don't add a ton to their games from Age 24 to Age 30, rather refine their already developed skill-sets.
But hey, Pacers fans love him. Locking down a Top 150 player for the going rate of 6th man money is a fine move, especially for a team who has aspirtations of going deep in the post-season. It seems many teams have realized that a team is better when the players are locked-in to their money rather than "playing for their next contract" and putting themselves before the team. Boston seems to be doing this. The Knicks have been doing this. Now Indiana is doing this.

More of a tongue in cheek comment and having a bit of fun. I doubt any Indiana Pacers fans are offended and I am sure their enjoyment for a fan favorite is off the wall and couldn't care less about what I have to say

So his team option next year stays or does this start from next year?

It has to be guaranteed for an extension to take place.

I understand why he does it, he guarantees the money, most would do the same, but unless an injury happens, this would've been his floor, good for him being able to afford a Yacht, good on the Pacers getting a value contract.

Excellent deal for one of the most underrated players in the league
Would rather have him than Monk or Rozier... I think a good NBA comp is a more scoring oriented Derrick White

Are you serious?
Nembhard Scoring Per 100: 17.4 Points on 57.3 TS%
White Scoring Per 100: 23.0 Points on 61.1 TS%
The last time White scored 17.4 Points per 100 is Never. White has never scored as little as Nembhard does.
We get it, you love Nembhard. You don't need to talk out of your ass to prop up a good NBA player.

Re: Woj: Nembhard extends 3/$59m
This feels like a really good contract for Indy.
And makes sense for Nembhard. If he improves enough, at 28 he will get to be a free agent and get a massive deal. If he doesn’t, he’s still set his kids up and has no risk.
I think this 3 year deal starts in 2025-2026? But it would be even better for Indy if it started the following year obviously. Don’t let him grow on how he played from March out and all of a sudden have him price himself out…

Opting out of 25/26 to begin the extension that season. He’ll play this year as the last of his “2nd round rookie contract” and the extension will being then.
He's currently under contract for the next 4 years for $61m total.

Then it's better for him, still excellent for IND, but less excellent than before

He’s really not just an Indy fan favorite though.

Like, he’s really good. He’s been asked to play a TON of off ball, and to just focus on defense, so his stats are going to be pretty skewed low, but if Indy didn’t luck into having Tyrese Haliburton, they’d pretty clearly be happy running Andrew Nembhard as the franchise PG. And as he’s shown when Haliburton is injured, he’s really good at it.
