Best Centers Available
There's still a few teams in need of a big man, who are the best available via trade/free agency right now?

Re: Best Centers Available
Portland values all of their centers, but Ayton, Timelord and Duop Reath could be available for value (if the other team does not value them, we would keep them until feb).

I imagine Portland would trade one of Ayton, RW3, or Reath. All have their warts in one form or another.

Keita Bates-Diop and two future seconds for Reath?

I'd love Reath as our 3rd string, if we got better than expected value for one of the others, but I think 2 2nds is good value for Reath and would definitely take that.

Re: Best Centers Available
Walker Kessler, Ayton, Timelord, and Capela are available.
Brook Lopez seems somewhat available as well.
I... I have to think Jarrett Allen will eventually be available?
If the Clippers blow it up, I imagine Zubac becomes available as well.
Claxton will be available at the deadline.
The issue is that the Pelicans, Knicks, and Suns aren't willing to give up enough for any of the players mentioned for their teams to move them. And those are the only three teams that really need a center so they can be kind of picky for now (though the lack of a quality center will probably cause them a good bit of losses)

Works for me too.

Re: Best Centers Available
Hawks currently have 5 centers with contracts:
Capela: was made available all offseason, still most likely available, expiring $22 mil contract
Okongwu: currently unavailable
Nance: teams have shown interest, his expiring $11 mil contract is attractive, half of Capela
Fernando: unguaranteed contract, Hawks have pushed back his guarantee date twice in an attempt to bring him back
Zeller: trade eligible Dec 15th. He might be released if Hawks need his roster spot and we don't make any other moves.

Okongwu: currently unavailable

Re: Best Centers Available
Nets can offer Dayron Sharpe.
Extremely affordable at $3.9 mill + RFA rights in 2025.
Utterly elite rebounder, good at switching on the perimeter but middling rim protector.
It would require a late 1st or swap to get him since Brooklyn already has a ton of 2nds.

Chicago has an excellent, durable center who puts up 17/11/4 and plays nightly, if anyone needs a former All Star

What's Vuc's price tag at this point?

Re: Best Centers Available
You want one for nothing but cap space (if we are taking a more than 1 year contract, you would have to pay us for that), how about Richard Holmes and Marvin Bagley? With JV newly signed plus Sarr and Vucevic for the reserve minutes, they are excess baggage though the team defense improved after trading for them last year.

Why did Washington change Holmes’ contract?

I think he's a bit underrated, but he's neutral value at best. He's just very bad on D, except for rebounding. I really think Memphis would be a great fit

Re: Best Centers Available
I like what I've seen of Sharpe...though I don't know that he's any better than Jericho...and Nance could be an interesting option if Thibs trusted him the way he does Precious & OG. But Kessler looks like the only meaningful upgrade that we could afford to bring in.
Feels like our best play is bringing Achiuwa back on a 7-8M deal & letting him battle Sims for PT while signing someone with the tpMLE as trade filler before seeing how the season shakes out...assuming our FO can't work something out for Kessler before the season.

A big part of it for the Knicks is that we only really need a center upgrade when Robinson is hurt. Achiuwa & Sims both filled in very well when they needed to last season, and both are still young enough to improve. So depending on how much time Robinson misses, we might even get better center play than we had last year.
But unfortunately Mitch has played fewer than 59 games in 2 of his 6 NBA seasons, so it's totally possible that we get less than half a season from him again...in which case a Sims/Achiuwa platoon probably won't be good enough.

Problem with Kessler is that Ainge (in typical Ainge MO) is asking for a ton of assets and that's something that none of the 3 teams have (not in terms of what the Jazz would want).
Ayton has a lot of talent but comes with a whole lot of baggage that teams trying to win may want to avoid ESPECIALLY when you consider the size of his contract (applied against the apron) and the perceived size of assets it would take.
Timelord would be great if he wasn't so injury prone.
Capela is probably the most gettable and that could positively help each of the 3 teams mentioned. His contract is not small ($22 million for this season) but it's probably doable in terms of trying to match enough contracts.
From the Knicks standpoint, Kessler would be ideal. His contract is small, what he does right now fits with what Thibs expects his bigs to be able to do, he has upside which could potentially allow them to move him to full time starter once Mitchell Robinson's contract expires. Capela would be a 1 year plugin (expiring contract) that could definitely give them a nice cover for Mitch if and probably when he goes on the IL and, best case, give them the full 48 minutes a game at C. Can't see the Knicks looking to add Timelord to Robinson given both players propensity to get injured.

Capela was pretty brutal last season. I’d rather just roll with Achiuwa & Sims unless Thibs helped Capela find the fountain of youth.

Yeah possibly. I'm trying to convince myself that the new hair style and 3 point shooting in those video clips is a sign that Sims is going to take his next step and actually be a viable option lol.

Would be nice, but even if all we got from Jericho was what he gave us last season, that wouldn’t be any worse than what Capela gave Atlanta in the couple of months that I watched them. He was one of their worst defenders not named Young or Murray.
I don’t trust precious to start when Mitch misses time, but he was extremely solid in the backup role last year

Kessler’s the one that makes sense but the most we could offer is Deuce + DET FRP + WSH FRP, and we might be better off saving those assets for someone else.
