Re: DeAndre Hunter for D'Angelo Russell
I need some explanation on how keeping Hunter hinders JJ's growth when they play different positions.
D'Lo is not starter on the Hawks and Bogi is not a SF.

This seems very wrong.
D'lo is very much a positive impact guy in the regular season, efficient and effective when in the proper role. And he is paid to do that.
His impact can be replicated fairly easily by any unathletic, good shooting, bad defense PG if they play next to Lebron. Heck, even with Westbrook the Lakers were +7.5 if he shared the floor with Lebron (-10.7 without).

Yeah you are wrong.
LeBron + Dlo: +7.2 [1760 Minutes]
Dlo, No LeBron: +1.0 [1250 Minutes]
Dlo is still good without LeBron.

I don't see this working for either side.

Russell is part of the Simons and Herro gang that bring shooting but nothing else.
Doesn’t seem to be much of a market for those guys.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Value-wise, this is better for Atlanta, but D'lo is such a horrible fit with the Hawks. I think you need to find a third team that is offering up an expiring contract guy who fits a need more.
Then again, that's hard to precisely determine... The Hawks mostly just lack stars instead of having real needs.
Hawks projected lineup
PG: Trae
SG: Dyson Daniels
SF: Hunter
PF: Jalen Johnson
C: Okongwu
Bench: Bogdanovic, Risacher, Bufkin, Capela
Pretty much every archetype is covered in this nine man... The guys just aren't good enough.
The Hawks need a superstar SG or C... Gonna be basically impossible to get that guy.
Really need the Lakers pick to end up in the top 4 of the 2025 draft basically.

ATL could probably achieve this via a Hunter -4- LeVert (expiring) deal that would be much less disruptive for Trae.

Or Risacher to play up to his draft position and be that second star.

Seems pretty bad for Cleveland considering all the money they've just given out.

Maybe there would be something else needed to balance it, still some of us dare to dream of a day when CLE has actual Forwards on their roster again.

He absolutely will never play up to being a #1 pick, he was picked to be an OK 3D guy with no game changing traits.
He was picked #1 because this class was abysmal.

Yeah, he will be more of a connector than a true star but I could see him popping on RAPM/EPM/ect if all goes right and that could definitely help connect Trae's ball-dominance with the rest of the roster.
I think Atlanta has a good shot at 40 wins if they can stay relatively healthy.

I'd much rather DLo than Hunter and I'm in no way a DLo fan. But then DLo has no fit on the Hawks.
I don't think Lakers nor Hawks do this trade.

I think Hunter must still be maintaning a mystique on here. Saddiq Bey and Hunter played together and you could not say one was better than the other.

Trust me, Hawks fan know who's better.
Hunter's defense and 3pt shooting was far better than Bey by miles. Bey was downright AWFUL on defense. Bey plays with a toughness we wish Hunter did and before his ACL was an iron man.

Seems like a good reason to send them Hunter
