Yea, they'd pick up a Comp pick in the second round but probably lower than the one they lost. I know this draft wasn't highly regarded but I'd rather have Levonas. He's regarded as a pretty high upside arm (probably why he's looking to go so high over slot).

Law updated his top 60 prospect list. Quero at #24 and Black at #34.

There's a post over on BF.net with some inside info saying that the Brewers were essentially told on draft night that Levonas wasn't going to sign and they went ahead and drafted him anyway. Kind of opens up the distinct possibility that they're using the situation of drafting an unsignable player to intentionally defer a fairly high pick into next year's draft which is being viewed as superior to this year's. I can't come up with a logical reason to make the pick against what you're directly being told otherwise? Then I guess if he changes his mind for whatever reason you still end up signing a guy you really like as a prospect.

If true it continues to strengthen my confidence in the organization. There can be a debate of "bites of the apple" vs. "go for it" type of decisions at the MLB level, but good organizations continue to make future-based/process-based decisions and don't make rash and impatient ones (i.e. Packers, (ugh) Celtics, etc.).

That's really interesting. Would have to give the team credit for thinking ahead like that.

That's absolutely fascinating if it's true. Incredibly creative

Yeah who knows, maybe they didn't approach it with near that level of intention but I don't see how it couldn't have factored into their thought process on some level.

That would leave them with their own picks, plus a comp A pick, pick 68, and likely a comp pick for Adames so they could have 5 picks in the top 68 next year

Brewers did the NFL equivalent of trading back and out of a draft they didn't love.

Watched some of the Nashville game last night and man Wiemer’s swing is still as wild as ever.

I saw that new acquisition, Jay, threw a little too. Seemed to look alright in the part I saw.

Good five minute listen. Reminder that Yoho was an 8th round pick last season who got a $10,000 bonus (slot was $196,700). Only thrown a total of 79 innings across college and the pros but dude just strikes everyone out.

If Levonas doesn't sign (I'm still hoping he does), the Brewers are gonna have serious money to use for the 11-20 picks.

You don't lose that slot money? I thought you did if a player doesn't sign.

It be nice to be able to use it for some of the high schooler in the later rounds that were drafted.

You lose the slot money, but the assumption would be it would take a lot more than the slot value to sign him. Slot's worth $1,226,800. Anything over that the Brewers don't use from their bonus pool they can use to sign the 11-20 picks.

What a play. Brown Jr. was dismal for the first three months of the season, but he's slashed .295/.384/.475 in July with more walks than stikeouts. Long way to go before I'd consider him a legit prospect, but it's good to see.

That's a hell of a play. Wow!
