I normally don’t pay attention to these type of comments, but as an African, a leader in my community, and the president of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, I feel it is important to respond. This is for those who have asked about these comments, those who are offended by them, and everyone who has followed our story.

I’m not upset or angry at these ignorant remarks made by my former colleagues; I was more disappointed to see them coming from two individuals I’ve always respected. The comments made by Paul Pierce showed misinformation and a lack of research. However, he used it as a teachable moment to shed positivity once he was informed. Thank you to Paul Pierce for apologising, that i can respect.

Growing up, I heard many similar comments, and those very remarks are some of the things that motivated me to change the narrative. Africans now show solidarity and support for each other more than ever. Moments like this are not for us to get upset and lash out. Many Africans and Black people who embrace their African heritage are working hard to bring all Black people closer by educating and sharing stories and historic moments, teaching that we have much more in common than differences.

Having an African mom and having spent my childhood in Africa, I'm not really surprised by those kind of comments, however, I do get annoyed when the guys from the US insist on calling themselves African Americans while they always s*** on Africa every chance they get.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

To be fair I've never met a black African who didn't s*** on black Americans too LOL
But thats a total of 5 people I know from Zimbambwe and Nigeria, so maybe it's a coincidence

I'm rooting for USA but won't be too upset if they don't win it. I'd like Serbia to go far, or France if Viktor shines a lot. Greece too but don't feel they have much of a chance.

However I believe Canada will be the most difficult opponent for USA and that France will be very disappointing in this tournament.

France’s guard play is abysmal

At least so far it is... I felt they could compete for medals before watching em play. I'd say they're lucky to make it out of the quarter finals if they don't rise their game by a lot after the friendly matches.

They just don't have good guards.Nothing to do with Collet.DeColo and Fournier are washed up,Ntilikina turned out to be a bust. It's not like there are any quality guards that he just doesnt call(and no,Heurtel would make no difference)

It was pathetic how quickly they kicked him off to get mid White on the team.

Not really stars, but Collet had Sylvain Francisco and Elie Okobo at his disposal. Both are much better options than the awful guards he selected.

But he would chop his own arm off before leaving his cronies out of the Olympics at home.

It's totally Collet's fault. He could have selected numerous players that are are better than the guards he picked. It's absolutely the coach's fault.

And Heurtel would make a huge difference for them on offense.

First of all we sent all types of aid over the years and lobbied against Apartheid etc. We sent literal air force help to Ethiopia.

We NEVER call ourselves AA anyway, we say we're Black Americans. AA was a political label created by Jesse etc. We stand on this America stuff like it or not.

Your chip on your shoulder against us is because of jealousy that we're richer, more famous etc. as a group. We lobbied for you guys to be let in the country, lookup Dr King etc. pushing the so-called Kennedy Airlift. That's how Obama's father got over here. We've done a LOT for Africans but you never did a damn thing for us and still refuse to when in position to. All you guys do is player hate silently. Because you're too scary to say how you feel face to face.

Furthermore Arenas is Cuban-American and the way he talked you will never catch a grown Black American talking that way.

Tighten up dude.
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

Definitely a bunch of false assumptions being made on your part. Though I will agree with the point about jealousy you made. African refugees would definitely trade places with pretty much any Black American or even with Spaniards, Hungarians, some Albanians etc., if given the opportunity.

Pretty excited for this year's tournament. Hoping Greece makes it out of the group stage, since next Friday I'm flying to Greece with family and I'd like to see them advance and watch there.

As I understand it, Peacock will be airing all these games as well? I don't believe I have CNBC.

I think both Canada and Greece move on to the next stage.
