Bucks Summer League Games - Game 5 vs Washington - Saturday - 3:00 - ESPN

I don't need the team to deeply care about Summer League but it does come off as weird when your whole thing revolves around an all time big and you go into summer league like it's a dare to get through the whole fortnight with a rec league big man rotation.

its 5 games. who seriously gives a crap. im sure any given year if we prioritized winning it could happen. we dont. were consistent with it and it makes sense

I don't give many ****, liked the kid had the ball just bummed that first play if summer league was him making a nice pick and roll pass only for the big to not even be looking for the ball. Twas a turnover and a fast end to two man ball.

Not about prioritizing winning in the summer league but putting forth some level of effort in developing our players would be nice. That starts with putting a competitive team on the floor. Establishing good practice habits etc starts day one. The effort put in this summer by our organization doesn’t even warrant participation trophies. It was pathetic. Basically Marjon showed the same level of effort that our staff appeared to. I love the idea of drafting young guys with potential but in our organization it feels like they are on their own. I remember when Jabari was a rookie we had a guy that was considered one of the best developmental guys around that came in during summer league and worked with our players on development. A bunch of our regular players showed up in vegas to practice with the team and I remember Khris hanging on that gurus every word. Can’t remember his name.

I love Summer League. Plenty to get out of it. Seeing guys rise above the mess is fun.

AJJo is more likely to not succeed than he is to succeed, but I absolutely see why we picked him and I'm really excited about him as a prospect. We've had our blind Hammond pick, maybe it's time for a blind Horst pick.

Would have been filling in the days watching all his NBL junk time minutes if not for Summer League. This way we got to see him take threes that would have got benched anywhere else post high school and he even threw down a dunk that had shades of the Giannis style, can he really dunk from there thing.

You're right, odds are odds but damn this kid requires the least amount of wishcasting in a young wing than anyone else I can think of. Hope he's following Giannis and Pat into the gym and doing skills with Dame 24/7

You have to imagine the Bucks have been scouting him for some time. What made Giannis really special was his drive. We had no clue when he was picked. Perhaps AJ has a drive that you just can't teach?

Giannis was doing chase down blocks and coast to coast dunks in Greek 2nd division at 6'9 super fast with good (not great) handles, while playing some point guard minutes. Giannis was not as raw as AJ Johnson, he had some jaw dropping moments predraft.

AJ needs basically a ton of work on his FT and 3s while starting to polish his hesi & drive moves. Giannis had the keys of the Bradley Center and he was spending his free afternoon time in the gym and on court working his @$$ off. That sped up his development.
If AJJohnson wants alot of playing time before his rookie contract expires he should do like Giannis. Sacrifice at least a year or 2, his whatever off court entertainment in order to work on his body and craft.

Giannis was screaming point forward predraft ... I hesitate to tag something to AJ Johnson... Penny Hardaway, Shai or ... Michael Carter Williams?
He has the tools to become whatever he wants, will he ever become a starter ? idk. Will see.

Grade: B+

Signing Gary Trent Jr. for the minimum turned Milwaukee's offseason around. Before adding Trent, the Bucks had no capable replacement for Beasley's shooting in the starting five. Trent, a 39% career 3-point shooter, fills that role as a more capable defender and shot creator than the more limited Beasley.

Milwaukee upgraded from Patrick Beverley and Jae Crowder as veteran backups to Taurean Prince and Delon Wright. Adding so much experience on minimum contracts makes it clearer why the Bucks looked long term in June, drafting 19-year-old guard AJ Johnson with the No. 23 pick.

Only five teams with better grades than a B+.

What stood out was quick hands, a knack for stripping the ball on drives, and 45% from 3 (on 2 per game over 24 games)

For what its worth, his defensive lebron rating is above average and hes classified as a help defender.

Umude is the only two-way contract guy I can muster any excitement for, but honestly it's probably only because we haven't seen him play yet. I will say the 45% 3PT mark and 31/34 (91%) from the line are definitely positive signs that his shooting is real though. If he can hold up defensively, there's some regular season minutes for him.

They gotta be adding a big guy for depth at some point right? Even if it's just a 2way for regular season minutes? Right now the only guys on the roster that you could classify as a big are Brook, Bobby, Giannis, & Tyler Smith, only 1 of which is a center and as much as I liked the Tyler Smith pick I don't think you want him to play in meaningful action this year. If any of the other 3 bigs go down for a few weeks at any point the Bucks could be in a world of hurt there

If we play him this year it's going to be an adventure, much more so than any of our other young players.

I think right now, Livingston should be considered the 5th big, and I feel much more comfortable with that than with Smith, because he's strong as hell and his motor runs super hot.
