GSW/SAS

Post#1 » by louc1970 » Thu Jul 25, 2024 4:57 pm

Golden State trades Wiggins
San Antonio trades Johnson/Branham

Trade is based on defensive ability for SAS. Putting a lineup of Wiggins/Vassell/Wembanyama together creates a good mismatch for many teams.
For GSW the trade reduces the payroll $4M, Branham is not guaranteed for the second year and Johnson's contract declines. Cutting a player could get GSW under the salary cap.

Warriors cap situation makes a Wiggins cap dump unnecessary-barring a Lauri trade where they also keep Kuminga and have to give both large new deals after next season.

I'd be fine with this for the Warriors. Deal.

I don’t really see the point for GS unless you’re convinced Wiggins is 100% unsalvageable

If Wiggins is salvageable then the Warriors don't do it, if he's not then the Spurs don't. This is also too much of a win now move for the Spurs, who have made it very clear they're in no rush.

Don't get it for San Antonio. Why take Wiggins' money without compensation? Barnes is reliable and available. Wiggins is neither.

The needs of each team are different. Wiggins can still play defense and that is the primary add to SAS.
At GSW he is needed as a scorer and defender.
I see his value as worth more to SAS this no need for compensation.
