My top 5 all time vs Today's top 5 7 games series who you got?

Post#1 » by SlimShady83 » Fri Jul 26, 2024 10:12 am

Team A: PG Magic (If I wanted floor spacing I'd pick Curry) MJ, , Bird, Duncan, B. Russell

Team B: PG: Luka SG: Ant Man/Booker SF: J. Tatum. PF: Giannis C: Jokic

Doesn't matter which era y'all choose I still think Team A wins It.

- Magic/Luka would be fun to watch
- Jordan/Antman/booker would be fun
- Bird/Tatum - another fun match up Bird takes It
- Ducan/Giannis I think again Duncan takes It
- Russell/Jokic would be the match up to watch.
My Go Team
Magic, Jordan, Pippen, Duncan, Shaq

My Counter
Stockton, Kobe, Bird, Rodman, Dirk

Today's Team
Luka, SGA, Tatum, Giannis, Wemby

Can't believe I'm the one saying this but no LeBron in either team?

Besides that it really isn't fair to put guys like Edwards, Booker and Tatum up against some of the very best players of all-time, of course the all-time team is going to look much better.

Hahaha. I'm more into Bird then Bron would take Birds Celtics over any of Bron's teams but that's just me and my opinion. Bron being a point forward in today's game also, Giannis is best PF and Luka is,best PG IMO

Would you take a team with the best players spanning 40 years or players from the 2024 season?

Tough question...

Team A is a terrible fit. At least replace Bird with Lebron and Russell with Kareem or Shaq or something.

How is James a better fit with Magic/MJ than Bird?

Aside from being a better player who can defend better?

I agree though, Magic and MJ need to be off this team too if you want a team that optimises older players. Just team Lebron with Duncan, KG, Curry and Kawhi. That team is winning easily. If you want more 3pt shooting maybe switch out KG for Dirk or T-Mac, and if you want more D maybe switch Curry for Penny/CP3.

Probably the optimal "older" gen line-up is something like Lebron, Duncan. Kawhi, CP3 and T-Mac if this is just peak play. All 5 are elite on D, and the only non-shooter is Duncan, who can still hit a midrange J and provides your paint threat. He's likely the best Jokic defender you can find too.

People voting team A are not being objective. The team's shooting is too atrocious to beat an optimise modern team like team B.

Respect the response but I struggle to find anything I agree with in it. T-Mac should not be part of any conversation like this. KG/Duncan aren’t three point shooters and James only averaged over 38% twice (including last season). Magic and James is redundant on offense.

Magic/MJ/Bird is as an extremely good fit. Any team with those three would win at an astonishing rate.

It’s like you think James is portable like Bird or others. He is not. The team must fit James, not the other way around. That’s a real weakness of his. That’s not to say it has only one route but James teams do have to live in a certain zone to function, which I admit has morphed over the years. He is more portable and adaptable now than ever.

I see James as having demonstrated more portability than Bird did during each one's actual career. The hypothetical Bird fit on all-legend teams has merit because the ball doesn't stick to him the way it does to the helio giants, but IMO it's unfair to look at each one's body of work and say James has not been portable across varying circumstances in a way that Bird actually was as a player.
