Doesn't really help with their defense, but the man can play.

Gotta be a minimum deal if he signed with the Suns, right?

Until last season (which I'm assume was mostly about the team) Jones was a good defensive PG.

Pretty big upgrade for the Suns given their depth and extremely limited assets.

The best bargains come at the end of free agency. Great signing.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

He wants a champsionship and if he gets one, I'm sure he will make up what he lost in the offseason.

If that were true he would have signed with the Wolves, Thunder, Nuggets, Celtics, Knicks, or any other contender. The Suns got swept last year and are not contenders this year.

100%. He wants the opportunity to start, which he will be Phoenix.

well i have some crow to eat, I was sure some mid tier team would throw the MLE or Washington would send him a nice size 1 year deal to trade him at the deadline

Awesome pickup for Phoenix that will probably give them what they lost by cutting the $30M owed to CP3.

The Suns' roster is incredible in that they managed to add an absolute steal to their second biggest position of need and this move will almost certainly make them worse.

All of Jones, Beal, Booker, Durant, and Nurkic need the ball (Nurkic because he's so bad at finishing that he needs to do stuff as a hub to get defensive attention). If Durant continues to decline physically, the best defender of those five in their starting lineup will be Devin Booker.

They had to promise Jones a ton of minutes and touches to get him to sign this so I can't see how this will do anything but make them much worse by causing them to have tons of zero POA defender minutes and way fewer touches for Booker and Durant (who have forgotten to move without the ball and refuse to do so at their current age)

We've seen several teams put together entirely new rosters and dissapoint the first year only to be really good the next (cough....wolves...cough). I'm sure he views this as a contender that he will get to start for, and I think they'll be better next year than they were this year. Far from favorites, of course, but if they make the WCF I would not be surprised.

What a bargain for PHX. Surprised he didn’t get a bigger contract elsewhere.

Yeah I am sure KAT being hurt for most of the year, Rudy playing through back issues, Ant playing through Knee issues, Jaden having a broken hand in the playoffs, and Naz breaking his wrist had nothing to do with it.

Really only one of those was true of the regular season. You and I both know that team was having chemistry issues and issues learning to play together, which was why the Conley trade happened. The Wolves had one starter miss more than 15 games and went 42-40. A team with Gobert and Ant + a decent rotation should not have that poor of a record.

Look at Rudy’s numbers all season, that was more than having trouble playing together (especially with KAT out.) His back was messed up from international summer ball and when he got healthy he went for his fourth DPOY. Also the one player missing was our 2nd best offensive player and a key part of the rotation. Remember this included the time before the Conley and NAW trade. Overall you are right that there was an adjustment period, but not to the level of the Suns. I will say the Suns had a great offseason adding both Tyus and Monte and that it should make them more balanced overall.

Let's assume that Tyus Jones and Bradley Beal have to get at least 32 minutes a game to avoid agent and chemistry issues.

How does this team stop anyone

13th best defense last year while top 5 in TO.. their overall defense is probably much better if they can become bottom 5-10 TO team with the moves they have made.

Tyus and Monte will help, but the other 4 guys can still turn it over ;)

Not really sure how Tyus Jones helps a team with a bunch of iso scorers, but it’s still a nice signing at what I assume is a very low price.
