Thanks. I was a little hesitant to include the wings, but my thinking was there's still a chance depending how well their current lineup can guard 4s/rebound and who is available on the market. I do expect that it'll most likely be a 4 and the names you mentioned are good ones.Ben wrote:zaz102 wrote:I made a list of post-January 15 trade candidates that I think are realistic.
I picked decent (potentially PO rotation worthy) forwards and wings that are less than $12M (K. Martin + McCain). I imagine they won't be trading for a guard or big, but obviously things can change. Also, I tried to take in account the players that the teams might be willing to trade to the Sixers based on the draft picks they have, how important the player is to the team, and if they are a direct competitor.
Interested to hear who people would be hoping for from this list.
Tari Eason
Simone Fontecchio
Saddiq Bey
Derrick Jones Jr.
Jalen Smith
Jarred Vanderbuilt
Santi Aldama
Nicolas Batum
Kevin Love
Kyle Anderson
Chris Boucher
Trey Lyles
Maxi Kleber
Larry Nance Jr.
Naji Marshall
Corey Kispert
Cody Martin
Royce O'Neal
Matisse Thybulle
Eason would probably be my top target. If he's not available and Clips flame out, it would be awesome having Batum back.
Thanks for compiling this. Nicely done.
Tari Eason is way at the top, no doubt.
On one hand, if Houston is smart they can afford to wait for all of their young guys to develop (and/or come back from injuries) to see which ones are the for-sure keepers and which ones are trade fodder.
On the other hand, Houston probably will want to trade for a superduperstar at some point, when their youngsters are ready to contend alongside the big star, and while Van Vleet's otherwise inexplicable max contract could anchor such a trade, they'll likely need lots of draft picks to make it happen as well. (Otherwise they just trade multiple young contracts and thus sap the reason why they want to trade for a superduperstar in the first place.)
So maybe, possibly, they could be persuaded to take multiple firsts plus KJ for Eason. They would then be better stocked for their eventual consolidation, and the Sixers would have the missing starter for a short-term title push and even a longer term rebuild alongside Maxey.
The funny thing is that in terms of performance, Jabari Smith Jr seems like the PF who ought to be on the Rockets' trading block, but he's a former Top-3 pick and teams don't often give up on those guys before their first contracts are up unless they're totally flaming out.
My other comments are not directed at you, and certainly aren't a criticism, b/c I appreciate that you're just compiling a list. I'm just comment on the guys, a number of whom are really wings trying to play PF if it can give them more of a shot.
Among the ones in whom I'd have a strong interest, if they could be had for a reasonable price:
Boucher (has size, experience, rebounds well and spreads the floor) -- very interested in him.
Nance Jr.
Jalen Smith (caveat: the Bulls need a bigger PF if Smith shows that he can play well there, rather than just at C, the Bulls should just keep him and probably will-- and if he can't play at the 4 then the Sixers don't need him).
I like Fontecchio, too, but I consider him more of a SF (in the sense of being able to guard bigger PFs). Doesn't rebound very well or protect the rim. But I'd be interested if the price were right.
I'd love to have Corey Kispert but he too seems more like a small forward, has a very short standing reach (by NBA standards0 and a 6'7" wingspan, and he has rebounded like a wing. So bring him on if he's affordable, although I don't really see why he would be, but he won't solve or patch the Sixers' gap at the 4.
Mmmayybe Naji Marshall, but I still think that he's in that small forward category-- has small forward physical measurements-- and I don't trust his 1 year of good 3P shooting (31% career average).
Tari Eason, Chris Boucher, Larry Nance Jr, Jalen Smith... those seem like names to keep in mind.

Daryl Morey is a liar. A few picks my ass
You forgot to mention that Morey got PG to come to philly not to be the 1st or 2nd option but the 3rd option. Why is that because he drafted Maxey who is going to take over this team very soon. So a few picks is a relative term. Give the man some latitude. But knowing Ainge he probably wanted all the Clippers picks and several more 1st round picks too. Morey probably respond with "Danny you know Collars is no longer running the show right!"
Great, all could be true. He's still a liar
I've never gotten this thing with fans expecting complete transparency from their coaches and GM's. The ones that talk too much, like Glenn, are generally weak minded charlatans who I wouldn't want anywhere near a leadership role on my team.
This isn't politics, where they are 'elected representatives' and where transparency should be demanded and expected (cough cough), these are people hired to build a team and win games, period, and the more they keep under their vest the better, as far as I'm concerned. You only let out information that will help in achieving your goals.
I'm sure Morey had his reasons for making an admission like that, and it very well could have been completely fabricated simply to give the impression around the league that the Sixers were still open for business.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 5
Depending on how the team is doing and if Lauri is still at the $18 mil pricetag, I would trade Oubre, KJ, vet min, and picks + swaps for Lauri after January 15th. I'd trade Oubre over Caleb because the latter is locked in for 4 years and is a better defender + shooter.
Starting next season, we'd live in the 2nd apron until PG's contract expires (3 total years, assuming he opts into his final year). I think those 3 years of financial pain and restrictions would likely be worth the on-court product.
Maxey/Lowry
Martin/Gordon
George/Council
Lauri/(vet min)
Embiid/Drummond

Good, so we're in agreement that he's a liar.
I don't expect anything, except for people to not report things that Morey says about transactions that may or may not have been as facts... rather than spin. Because he's going to spin it in a way that makes himself look more active or closer or further away from a deal than what accurately happened, depending on his own PR. Never said it was a good thing, never said it was a bad thing but him lying is a thing.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 5
I think there's a good chance PJ Tucker will be on the roster by the end of the season. During the RTRS podcast, Morey mentioned two things about him.
1. PJ was the non-star player he always wanted on the team.
2. He mentioned there was a former Sixers player that loves Philly and is still visits Philly a lot. He said he cant mention the player now, but may be able to talk about it later. The only player I've heard about recently was PJ.
This along with the fact the PJ was unhappy in LA last year and did not want to be on the team. Also, he is a prime buy out candidate that can be signed by the Sixers since he made less than non-taxpayer MLE. Plus the Sixers are obviously short on 4s right now.

Meh, at this point, I'd rather have Morris over PJ. Morris is taller and (slightly) younger though both are still ancient in terms of NBA players. Ideally, I'd want somebody younger than both. Is Thor available?

I'd have to go back and listen, but I thought he was talking about his time in Houston, not Philly. That was my perception of that comment at the time I listened to it.

I remember hearing something about that too, although I thought I heard about it on the the Ricky. Spike strained his face trying to think of who it was, so perhaps not.

You're probably right. I bet they trade KJ and McCain for a guy and then sign PJ as a buyout.

For #1, I'm pretty sure he meant Houston as well. But nonetheless, a pretty good compliment from Daryl about PJ.Stanford wrote:zaz102 wrote:1. PJ was the non-star player he always wanted on the team.

Our next roster move gonna be a 4 for sure. Who can enforce for us.
Oubre,KJ and council gonna bring the athleticism. And dunk that sh.t
I'm gonna say it now this team gonna be a load of problems for the league. The skill level with the roles is off the charts ....
I haven't really thought about Reggie starting. We did start Lowry for no reason last year, but I'm not sure I would want to be a small backcourt again in the post season. I can see it working in the regular season though.
Is Maxey bulking up for the 2? New info for me, is that true? Hope he doesn't lose his shooting touch, but overall great news.

I don't agree at all that he's a liar. He's doing his job, which is building a team and putting out only information that may prove to be advantageous to that end. I'd be highly disappointed if he was actually revealing the 'truth' for no strategic reason.

Honestly, PJ might be the only player I'd prefer Marcus Morris over. If we're getting him for garbage time and whatever 'locker room' presence he offers, as if this group needs that, then fine.

Maybe he was talking about Ben Simmons. Either way no PJ Tucker please just like Simmons he is allergic to shooting.

Love the chatter. I was big on PJ adding toughness when he was added the first go round, but man he has nothing left. I get that we aren't adding much at this spot, but take a flier on someone else.

If PJ gets waived by the Clippers, he would be nice to have in the Udonis Haslem role on a minimum. But I imagine PJ still wants burn, which they shouldn't be very interested in giving to him.

How is Cedi Osman on defense? His offense and rebounding looks comparable to Morris, but Morris wasn't a great defender from what I remember last year.

Just got around to watching PG's intro presser. Not even as interesting as PG's podcast
But one thing I really liked that I heard was PG said "Nick, we don't want to see Jo iso'ing from the top of the key". Presumably he is speaking to Nurse? He should also be addressing that to Joel. Either way, it's on point and exactly correct.

Watched the Podcast P with Maxey today and I think Tyrese is even more competitive than I realized. He had this moment where he talked about going to the ASG and being next to Brunson but didn't talk to him for 20 minutes because he still saw him as an opponent. I love that so much. His smiles while playing are def deceiving.
