Attempt #73 at getting mods to enforce some kind of “Thread creation privileges are earned” system.

Indeed.
I believe this to be true.

I don't know about stamps but he's the best player to have played basketball so far and I don't think it's really an argument. The GOAT talk is a waste of time.

Only to the people who use anything he does to try to make a case for him.

lol at the too many black marks....Only in 2011 is one

It’s the only one that’s needed.

You can lose to a better team, it happens. But there absolutely can not be a legit argument that the GOAT in his prime is the 3rd best player in a series.

He's 39 years old

I have 3 players in the best ever spot and I won't call either Russell/MJ/Lebron the clear goat.

At worst if you hate him, let's say top 10

Winning a gold medal doesn't push him higher on ANYONE's ranking. It's an achievement for him, yeah his legacy as well, it's not going to budge the goat argument for anyone.

I know this is a popular anti LeBron argument but I’ve always found the idea of one black mark in a 20 year career stopping someone from reaching GOAT status to be incredibly silly. MJ may not have had something as bad as 2011 but he’s never done anything as impressive as 2016 either.

Tell me, does 2008 stop Tom Brady from being the GOAT QB?

Whatever he does in the Olympics changes nothing in the grand scheme of things as far as GOAT status is concerned. He's always going to be relegated to something 2-10 when compiling a list. Subjectivity being what it is and all.

One black mark is a good way to poo poo something ridiculously huge. Like oops. It was an accident! It was an entire series.

Brady only plays half the game, and his legendary coach made some pretty questionable decisions, and it was only one game, so nah, not really a great example.

Not as impressed with 2016 as LeBron Lovers. Literally a moronic Draymond decision away from losing 4-1 in that series.

Anyway, there’s a thread for this kind of debate, so I’ll stop hijacking this one.

People answered the OP’s question pretty early. This doesn’t matter for the GOAT debate. It’s a fun last international farewell tour for a group of legends, and I’m glad to see Lebron, Steph, and KD get this hopefully gold send off.

Lmao utterly laughable take when we’re watching him be the best player on a stacked Team USA as a 39 year old.

He's the best player at 39 in an Olympics that people were trying to convince themselves that the world was catching up to the US.

Yeah, old ass LeBron and old ass KD are showing how big a talent gap there still is when they are bringing their A game.

I don’t know if he’s ’using it’ but if he carries us to a gold medal as clearly our best player I think it helps his argument. Jordan hasn’t done anything to add to his case in 20 years. Lebron keeps adding and adding.

No, of course not. Number of Olympic golds is going to have exactly zero impact on the GOAT debate. The only thing LeBron could do to affect his historical standing at all this point is to win another ring. If he really wanted to maximize his GOAT case, he’d just skip the Olympics to rest up for the season. LeBron’s just having fun playing competitive basketball with team USA.

Gold medals on team USA are honestly not that crazy of an achievement. They're expected and it's one of those situations where it means more to the actual players than their pundits who determine their legacies. This isn't the NBA and they won't be judged by how many gold medals they have.

Kevin Durant will have 4 gold medals next month - the only player in history to have that. Nobody is going to be pushing him to new heights because of that. I mean it wasn't even till 1992 where you had the NBA really being involved in the Olympics so I don't know why a gold medal it would carry any weight in a GOAT debate.

Definitely done to pad his stats in the legacy department. He’s not going to he the GOAT though. By the time people forget MJ, someone else will get pushed to take the spot.
