"My agent [Bradbury] walked me and my family through multiple free agent offers and sign-and-trade proposals at a number of different financial levels, but the Suns' opportunity is where I can best maximize my value for a return to free agency next year as well as give myself a chance to be part of what I think will be a special team and season."
The Suns were aggressive in making the case to Jones about the potential for his role on a roster that aspires to a deep Western Conference playoff run with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal alongside him.

Re: Tyus Jones thread
He's a mercenary this season, filling a spot of need with no guarantee of anything beyond it. He made it pretty clear he's looking for a long term deal and plans to re-enter free agency as soon as the season is over. This season will be a defining one for him and I'm hopeful that even if he isn't retained, his presence will be a steadying one for us.

Re: Tyus Jones thread
Is there any outside chance that we can retain him after this year unless he takes another minimum contract? Love this guy, i wish he can be our PG for the next 3-4 years.
I Dont wanna be here

Yes. This move puts Grayson Allen on the bench and you could move him at the deadline for an expiring deal and have the space to resign Jones for less than what Allen would be making. It’s possible. Even with apron, you can resign your own guys, it’s just really costly with the tax.

No chance to resign Jones next year for more than the vet minimum. Like Okogie he would need to take a small payday for two years and then the Suns could offer him the league average salary at best. Jones long term with the Suns is unlikely. If the Suns wanted him badly for the long haul they should have worked a sign-and-trade with Washington. Little for Jones and a future second round pick.

Very very unlikely. We'll probably need to straight salary dump a Nurk or O'Neal and probably Nas Little get under the 2nd apron next offseason in order to have access to the tax payer MLE which is still only around $5.25m

Jones/Nurkic pick and roll is exciting me, pulls the defense out of position instead of isolating into traffic.

Yeah happy we got him but a lot of us were saying we should pursue Jones from a couple seasons ago, had we traded for him we would have had his bird rights.
I think it must have been coach Bud that pushed for us to get a PG because until he came along everyone in the org was saying we didn't need no PG.

Yes, sounds like Bud was a big part of getting Tyus. The best move of the summer was probably the coaching change taking into account all the assistant hires.

I feel the same. Bud could be the jackpot signing for us!

At least someone is actually listening to the coach for once. It doesn't help when you have two coaches in a row that either don't say anything to affect the roster or are ignored by the front office. Here's to hoping this is a paradigm shift.

His numbers each season:
1.34 in 2020
1.86 in 2021
1.98 in 2022
2.46 in 2023
1.48 in 2024

This stat is pretty amazing. He is the leader over Thybulle, Butler and Khawi.
I can't believe that we got him for the minimum.

So he's basically a poor man's CP3 but with far less resistance to playing modern NBA basketball
