Kikuchi since Mid June, looked like the terrible Kikuchi from the 2022 season. He has been poor in 7 of his last 8 Starts. Not a fan of Atkins, but I am quite surprised and pleased they got back a prospect like Bloss for around two months of Kikuchi.

This, plus we don't have much high end prospects.

Looks like 2 additional lottery tickets will be in this deal, knew bloss couldn't be it.

The Blue Jays’ exact return is unknown, but it is expected to include touted pitching prospect Jake Bloss, who was scratched from his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. It is also expected to include two more prospects, according to a league source.

Kikuchi is ranked No. 33 overall — and No. 7 amongst starting pitchers — on The Athletic’s Top 50 Trade Deadline Big Board.

Bloss was being raised to #2 in a weak Houston system by MLB. Taking on Kikuchi’s remaining salary would put Houston over the second tax threshold so the extra prospects might be about the Jays paying some of that salary.

I think the floor has to be 'will we get more back for him now than the value of a QO compensation pick?'

Because if the answer is 'no', then what's the point of trading him now?

Doubt he meets or would get QQ , so he was going go for nothing. I don't think they want to Qualify him at 23-24 mill whatever it is, and risk him taking it.

Kikuchi is absolutely going to get offered a QO.

This makes sense wonder what it means for our own tax situation

Bloss is a big acquisition my guy. Mid-rotation upside drafted just last year and already making MLB starts.

Not the excited for a guy who might project to be 4th or 5th starter, but I guess I can't expect more for rental. But Ross can talk about years of control like he did that first year or 2nd year when we sold off vets like Ja happ.

He's getting killed in his starts might be not ready and being forced to start for Houston cause they have no one else at this point

We're getting a guy with control who is projected as a mid-rotation starter for a guy about to become a FA who is an end of rotation starter. That feels like a win to me.

Houston gonna put that special sauce/ tack on kooch and turn him into an ace, like they have done with so many pitchers.

This may genuinely be the best trade I've seen a Toronto team pull off.

Wagner has been tearing it up in the AAA

Loperfido has great numbers across the board this season as well. One of their best prospects.

Bloss for Kikuchi was already a massive win, but the fact that we get two more solid prospects is just highway robbery.

Kikuchi is making 10 million this year. QO will be around 22 million. Depending on how well Kikuchi pitches the rest of the way, I have real doubts the Astros will fork over that much money on Kikuchi.

Regardless, this is a great trade by the front office. Kikuchi has been terrible his past 7 out of 8 Starts. I was not expecting to get this return. Give credit to Shatkins for pulling this off. Massive win for the front office for a two month rental.

Let's not forget Loperfido also has the catch of the year.
