Is Ayton an upgrade over Okongwu?

Re: ayton to atl (with tor)
I have OO on a 4/62 worth quite a bit more than Ayton on a 2/70.

Aside from how much their paid or value in trade… I think OO is the better player, and I thought that was a widely held belief. Am I wrong?

Ayton is, ideally, a backup center.

Ayton is certainly overpaid.
Do really think OO is a better player?

Swap that from Onyeka going out to Capela going out instead and we can talk.

Re: ayton to atl (with tor)
Makes a lot more sense with Capela. Value wise OO is too much for Ayton imo.
I don’t think Portland would trade Ayton for pure expirings. I think they should though.
But theres also most likely a team that gives up some value for Hunter/Capela since Portland would be willing to take bad money back? Even if the value is a salary dump more so than the player..

Capela/Brown is too much money incoming for Portland. Even if it was legal they would pass for tax reasons. OO/Brown would be fine, except I think there's no way Toronto or Atlanta should do the OP.

Add Thybuille going to Atlanta - it appears he us the odd man out in the rotation if Portland is going with a backcourt of Henderson/Sharpe.
And send Fernando to Raptors as a backup if Toronto is moving Poeltl or Olynyk.
Gets Atlanta under the tax line.
Portland gets 2 players on 1 year deals.
Toronto gets a defensive SF to play with Barnes.

Such a wildly hot take. I get he's overpaid but you can't seriously name 30 centers who are clearly better can you?

Yeah, ridiculous
Overpaid, inconsistent motor, cant/won’t set screens, all that is true. Calling him a back up is just not reasonable.
PS he is among my least favorite players too.

Ayton is not a starter on a good team. So, ideally, like babyjax said, he's a backup.
I don't think they're saying there are 30 centers in the league better than Ayton.

Re: ayton to atl (with tor)
I actually saw Ayton make contact on a few screens towards the end of the season. Maybe he is improving or maybe it was just a random cluster of positive data points, but if he can actually become a passable screener that opens up a lot of his potential.JRoy wrote:DeBlazerRiddem wrote:babyjax13 wrote:Ayton is, ideally, a backup center.

I stopped watching after Sharpe went down. Without Sharpe POR games are largely watching Grant and Simons iso and Scoot carry the ball every 3rd dribble.

not anywhere close to 30 if it's restricted to just C's rather than C/PF....bigs. If it wasn't restricted and salary was factored, as it should be, I'd estimate you (generic you) might be able to name 30 'more desirable' big men

To not like Ayton is fine, but to flat out lie and say that Okongwu is better than him is just ridiculous. What are we doing here?

Okongwu had a down year last year but still managed to post a higher win share and similar PER. He shot better, and his offensive per 36, and especially his per 100 possession numbers arent far from where Aytons is and his defensive metrics are much better. I don't think it's an outlandish take to think that Okongwu is in the same world as Ayton.

Re: ayton to atl (with tor)
They are probably roughly equivalent. OO better defensive player, DA better rebounder/scorer/size. Don’t think either would make any team a contender.
OO’s best feature is his contract, in my opinion. Much better than paying DA all star money to never sniff an all star game.
