Did we win the 2024 championship?

Post#1 » by OldCeltics » Sun Jul 28, 2024 7:11 pm

It still seems unreal. I watched the 2008 championship, and its crazy to think 16 years have passed. Heck 1/3rd of the this board was probably born after 2008.

What is even better is the story. Brown + Tatum, fire and ice, both drafted #3, and it took them 7 years to get here. Often getting close but not completing the task. Yet they both stuck with the team and are now super max.

One comment is I've been following all these stories after they won like during Olympics Brown posting a tweet blaming Nike for getting cut from the team, and White of all people taking his spot.

Tatum has been outspoken about not doing enough to calm the situation of Brown almost getting traded, and just sticking his nose down and doing his job. He said he should have done more, and spoke up more, and he enjoys playing with Brown, and they get along well.

Another story is Tatum said and i paraphrase, that all the people that doubted me can't doubt me any more. To which my response would have been, buddy you shot 40% in the playoffs. But at the same time, I'm proud of Tatum, and will defend him against any other team's fans explaining he got triple teamed and played point forward, so its ok to have lower fg%, because his assists, rebounds, defense, steals helped win the championship.

Shaq and others coming out and saying Celtics had easy path, which is off course ridiculous. We were given a path, and we went all the way. Denver and Timberwolves folded to the Mavs, but we didn't.

Overall, I'm just proud to be a Celtics fan, proud of this board, and proud of the players, and the story book ending they have achieved. Now on to the dynasty.

It still feels good.

One thing that doesn't get talked about is that we have the best starting back court in probably Celtics history. White and Holiday were huge in the championship drive. Both guards are big, can shot, pass, defend and rebound. They were the glue to the team.

Also, Al doesn't get enough credit. Where would the Celtics be in the playoffs without Horford after KP missed almost the entire playoffs?

Lot of people talk about Tatum and Brown, but this was a team with an amazing backcourt. White became my favorite player. And I loved the addition of Jrue and KP.

Brad Stevens did a brilliant job putting this team together.

Also it’s hardly remarked upon about how the 5 days off between round one and two and the 7 days off before the conference finals and then the full 9 or 11 (whatever the length of that break) down days before the Finals, how much that worked to Al’s advantage. I mean those breaks were HUGE for Horfords rest to keep his legs so he could perform at a high level throughout an entire playoffs because Al just didn’t hold up great in the way more intensive schedule of the 2022 and ‘23 playoff runs.

That extra rest was such a gift, esp with KP getting hurt. And nobody really brings up how much that long ass rest worked to our advantage with Al being 38 years old.

Things happen control what you can control
Unicorns get hurt but you go on
Other teams mighty be healthy
You still show up and play
Facts
Best team all year
Blew teams out on the reg
Only lost 3 games in playoffs
Zinger only played 3 full games in playoffs
All they got is excuses
All we got is banners

With the disrespect that Brown and Tatum have gotten as well as the monkey off their back, I want them to smoke the league like the warriors. I fully think both Tatum and Brown have another level and Tatum can win MVP. Hopefully this is the season

Lebron made it to the finals with that cleveland team.

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

Horford was amazing in the 2022 finals.

Bucks have been the champions the last 3 years because they haven’t been fully healthy.
