I usually never watch tennis these days. If i watch its usually the women. In the 90s the serves for them men jist made the sport boring and I never came back to it.

However, watched a very strange game in the womans qtr finals earlier between a german and a chinese. The chinese, think she were called zheng, were apparently ranked 7th and the german were retiring after the olympics. Zheng were in real trouble, were down 4-1 in 3rd before waking up and won in tiebreak

That’s a big win for him. He has failed to live up to expectations. Let’s see if this is a turning point for him

I wouldnt mind if american athletes decided to win some gold medals. I know most of our medals come in the 2nd week but still, 4 golds after almost 5 days of competition must be an all time low.

Marta copying Zidane, getting a red card in probably the last game of her career. Sad ending for the GOAT of women soccer but what a career.

There are some countries which pay almost $800k for a gold medal. The United States pays $40k.

Swimming team has been disappointing, but that was expected before the Olympics.

Amazing win for team USA against Serbia.
I enjoy watching volleyball at the Olympics, and I always say that I will watch the non-olympics events, but I rarely do

You think they're not trying to win because they're only getting 40k? It's certainly a nice bonus but I dont think it increases their motivation, it's the Olympics. And countries who pay as much as 800k wont have dozens of gold medalists. Among the major nations Italy pays the most with over $200k with France second at $85k but they increased the prizes because they're the hosts. Countries like Japan and Australia pays significantly less than the US but yet are having better results so far.

I was nervous and haven't watched it yet. Was trying to avoid a spoiler but since they won I'm kinda glad I saw your post haha. From the score it looks like it was an incredible match.

Hopefully I was too salty about their loss to China the other day and the team keeps playing well and winning. I actually like several of the teams in the women's volleyball tourney but I've gotta root for my USA ladies.

I feel like crap today and thought about trying to power through but instead I decided to lean into it haha. So I played hooky and I'm having an old school sick day on the couch with the Olympics on. Kinda nice.

More of an observation. I didn’t even know countries paid for medals prior to yesterday

Incredible race in the 200m butterfly men and what a finish by Leon Marchand to win his 2nd gold medal in 3 days! He's going for a 3rd one in a couple hours in the 200m breaststroke

Yep, the US paying less is irrelevant. They are not having a good games thus far. But they will slowly climb to first or second once the track and field starts.

We all need a break once in a while, my friend. That goes doubly for you considering what you see in these forums

I just watched Krajicek and Ram end the reign of Nadal over Paris and school Nadalcaraz in double play. The entire stadium against them, but the Americans too clutch. What a great atmosphere.

Yea and quite a few countries have a pension for medalists...even per medal. So if you bag some silverware and you have a nice little dividend until the rest of your life.
