NY has a little less flexibility now, but there are options. Below is an example of a pretend Jabari Smith Jr. trade that I modified a few weeks ago and posted on here. It's still a viable (offseason) trade AFTER signing Precious. Intriguing option.

Jabari Smith Jr. + Steven Adams + Tari Eason + (draft picks) = Randle

They have Timelord but also Duop Reath too.

Edit: It’s sad, but there’s nothing that would make sense :/

Grant at 30 million is not value

You do realize that new contracts for your average 20 ppg scorer will now start at 45 per?

I proposed this trade a month back if it turns out we have no intention of keeping Randle long term. This is the type of trade (young bigs with upside) that we would have to look for since I doubt we could get an established all star vet for Randle that would fit us well. Trades like this are really hard to pull off. It's more likely that Randle extends at some point and we give it a go with him at the 4 all season.

Smith is not there yet. It is wild, but we’re now in a different position. You’re right though, if it isn’t KAT, it’ll be Randle and that’s good.

Why would the Rockets trade Smith, Eason and Adams for Randle....and include picks?

Sure Randle is the best player in the trade and he gives them a legit all-star caliber player but he speeds up their timeline to right now and I'm not sure that's the best course of action for them or if they want to do that.

The Knicks would do that for sure since it actually lengthens their timeline a little bit because it gives them some youth upside and flexibility along the front line but I can't see the Rockets doing it.

I don’t know, it might take away the Knicks‘ championship aspirations entirely… it makes no sense either way.

Randle has to prove he can do something in the playoffs before we can say removing him takes away chip aspirations, don't ya think? On paper, yea, all star talent is what elevates a team in the playoffs, but he hasn't shown that ability himself yet so it's just in theory.

I'd do that without the picks , and I like Randle,...but thats too much upside and team balancing for me to turn down. I always wanted Eason here.

Maybe we sign one more depth piece to use in a future trade by way of the TPMLE $5.5m…. Hayward, Lonnie Walker, or Cedi Osman?

We will def use it. Because it will be a non minimum salary we can help aggregate in a future trade.

Yup. Whoever it is has to accept a role that means zero minutes most nights.
