This is **** outrageous. IOC is completely culpable here in their decision to do away with the ONE cheek swab and have competitors fairly compete in the right sex category.

Is there any proof that Imane was born male or is biologically male? Genuinely asking. I know testosterone levels has been a point of controversy in the past, because some women just have naturally high testosterone levels.

I've edited the post above to include the statement. IBF requires a sex test. Both boxers failed it and did not appeal/dropped it. IOC removed cheek swab sex test. And here we are. All that **** training and hopes dashed because of IOC's reprehensible negligence.

No appeal seems damning. Bad situation

Might as well close this thread since people care more about pointless controversies that belong in the Current Affairs board than the actual games themselves. Jeez.

No. This is a complete turning away from a current situation IN SPORTS AT THE OLYMPICS. Several people have been commenting on it beyond the previous back and forth.

You can comment on it or not but it's a relevant current (literally fight happened a couple of hours ago) topic and won't go away as it's an issue in several sports.

Im sad. Bought ticket to new deadpool before i knew both the womens gymnastics and the swedish guy plays his quarterfinal in tabletennis tonight.

So I havent watched much today, somr of japan brazil womens volleyball. Always impressed. Like, in school it was good if the ball went over 3 times.

So zheng won, good for her.

Whoever asked about track and field. Think a commentator said that starts friday.

About the boxing incident. Im not even gonna get into it, but can anyone be surprised after the starting ceremony? Have to undrstand, IOC is only after money. I mean, they are at Fifa levels. Only way to stop them is to hurt their wallets

It's not their fault for having a biological condition. It is on the IOC and other organizations to test properly and have a separate category as some here and elsewhere have suggested, not lumped in with women who have a biological disadvantage.

Just watched Alcaraz come from behind and win in straight sets vs. Paul.

Alcaraz will medal, just now we await to see which one.

(My cell keep 'fixing' his name to Alcatraz, not helpful)

I understand your frustration but do you mind being a little gentle in speech with the way you talk about them. Most people don’t like being called freaks or weirdos. You can continue to hold your opinion but kindness in speech will allow you to hold a conversation as opposed to stiring up anger from someone.

I do want to say that intersex people is a natural occurrence in the world. It was a mutation in the sex chromosomes, it had nothing to do with them wanting to change.

Zverev in trouble. Down a set and a break vs. Musetti who now has to hold serve for the match.

And he's done it!

Musetti into the semis in straight sets on a beautiful and increasingly rare one handed backhand on the line.

Something is off about this story.
The IBA disqualified both athletes, one didn't appeal, the other (Iman, the Algerian), appealed and then retracted the appeal, if the IBA disqualified them why did the IOC allow them?
To be very clear, because people are mixing up things, and others are using it for rage-harvesting, Iman (the Algerian boxer) was born a girl and raised a girl, she just seem to suffer from a biological condition, she's not the case of males deciding to identify as women later in their life.

Both boxers in question tested XY which was the disqualification for IBA. Having a DSD but going through male puberty is a biological advantage regardless of how one was raised or socialized as a result.

IBA tests for sex. IOC stopped testing for sex via a simple cheek swab back in 2000. So they have different criteria for who competes and the latter allows for unfair biological advantage.

Yes that is different than self ID changes. Most of those athletes I believe have not been allowed to qualify to compete (ie/ Lia Thomas in swimming).

Do you have more information on the biological condition?

Nothing, the IBA have rightly maintained confidentiality, they mentioned both X and Y chromosome and testostorone being too high, but they didn't expand.
As much as I dislike FIBA, this sort of thing won't happen in basketball, since same organization make the decisions in all tournaments.
