Move Markkanen to the Grizzlies?
Basing this off the idea the Jazz want to tank/play youth.
Utah trades Markkanen
Grizzlies trade Clarke, LaRavia, Aldama, 25 FRP, 26 FRP, 28 FRP.
Utah gets some young players that will grow and not affect winning this year. More importantly they get 3 FRPs.
Memphis gets a player to round out the team.

Re: Move Markkanen to the Grizzlies?
I think the Grizzlies make a ton of sense for Markkanen; honestly, it may be the spot that makes the most sense out of anyone in the league (A Ja, JJJ, Bane, Lauri core rivals boston IMO), but I think it's going to take an additional pick and GG for UTA to be interested. Probably too rich for Memphis.

Just don't think Memphis is going to be the top bidder for the UFA and run the risk of him walking. We are not likely the team that wants to carry 4 max contracts once JJJ gets paid.

Yeah, it's tough to see Memphis affording 4 star contracts going forward. This is also why I suspect that OKC isn't that interested as they'd also have the 4 contract/small market problem.

I mean they've got Eddey just starting a rookie contract to use in a three big rotation, but I suspect the flight risk aspect makes it debatable. They may have to take a risk like this though because they're likely to get outbid if he extends and is then traded.

Except if you get the players locked in now before the big bump from the new contract, then the team makes money on money.
Just wondering what it would take to get him. Thought of a 3 team deal with Smart as the Grizzlies focal and youth coming from another team?
I’m not to concerned with losing GG since if he is included JJJ is still there with one of LaRavia/Aldama staying. And as someone else said, Eddy can be the size in the middle.

I don't think this is enough value. LaRavia and Aldama are fine, I think Aldama will be a solid starter, and then it is three picks from a team with absolutely no downside. Ja/Bane/Lauri/JJJ would just be monstrous.

What would make it fair for Utah?

Maybe replace LaRavia with GG Jackson and add a swap or two where we can swap the worst of the 25 and/or 27 picks we have for Memphis'? But I really think the ship has sailed on a Lauri trade. Tony Jones (who is historically the most plugged in reporter for us) has said that the Jazz want to resign him and he doesn't want to leave. Sounds like we are going to do the R+E but Lauri will wait a day to do it so he can't be traded until the 25 offseason.

Right, the ‘25 and ‘26 picks are all but locked in as like #22 or later, ‘28 gives a little more time for things to fall apart but it’s still only 4 years from now for a team that would have 4 young stars signed through that whole time. All three probably wouldn’t go for like a #11 in this coming draft.
Also I don’t think GMs ever look at trades as ‘well first we must have three first round picks no matter what they are.’ That seems like it might only apply to contending ish teams who are planning to flip those 1sts quickly for depth pieces.

If Jazz can get Lauri to sign a descending deal then OKC will want him.
42.18m, 38.8m, 35.42m, 32.04m, 28.66m
30%, 25%, 20.8%, 17.2%, 14%

Even with the extra money this season that looks like a major bargain. Not sure I'd expect Lauri to give back that much money.

$210m over next 5 seasons is what Lauri makes by playing out season and signing 4-year max deal with another team at season end.
In above descending deal he gets $180m, so he loses $30m over 5 years but secured the bag. Maybe Utah negotiate a flat salary of $42m for this season and next 4, which is like $210m. That ends up looking like 30%, 27%, 24.3%, 22%, 20% or something close.

I'd see the flat salary option as a lot more plausible. Maybe OKC considers that with Chet and Williams on 25% deals soon but it might be too much.

I think the fit is perfect, but the payroll is going to be too much.

I have no problem moving the picks back or adding swaps. My assumption is Utah would want payment sooner rather than waiting.
Including GG instead of one of the other PFs works. His time would get limited at Memphis with Markkanen, and with JJJ spending more time at PF.

I think OKC would want him regardless of the salary. The issue is who do they give up to get to $40m?

I would think OKC will be looking to add value contracts instead of established players like Lauri. For example, I could see them making a push for someone like Podz. He's cheap, and cost controlled. And he has some upside and wouldn't throw off the team in adding him. Problem is his cost as GS would probably love to keep him. But, OKC can afford to overpay.
Maybe not Podz exactly, but players that are very cheap for their production. Instead of targeting a high level starter I can see them just adding quality depth pieces, and folks scratching their heads. "Why is OKC adding player X when they have player Y already at the position?" The answer being depth. Also, players on good contracts are going to be pretty good stores of value. Maybe better than draft picks, as they can suit up and match salaries.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I am not there yet. So while I agree a player such as Podz would be the right the cost is high. There are a lot of players that fit that mode - Herbert Jones, Trey Murphy (depending on his resign), Mitchell Robinson, Okoro, etc.
