That weak patty flop on the Giannis roll and pass was the difference between Greece passing up Australia.

So it's basically if Spain loses by 4 or more, Greece finishes 2nd and advances? And if Spain wins, Greece finishes 3rd and prays for point differential to get them through?

Edit: No, wait, Greece will be 3rd in either of those scenarios right?

The most bizarre third quarter considering the second was so dominant. Good game Aussies. That Patty flop, though.

Going to need a miracle to get through. Walkup showed up to play but Calathes once again can't buy a basket and even turned down Freak on some rolls. I hope the HBF (Greek Hoops Federation) shoots him into the sun after they leave Paris.

The fake 3 FTs that the alleged pedo got at the buzzer of the 1st quarter may determine the qualification. Or the inability of Greece to score an easy layup in the 2nd half :D

Spanoulis is so trash ....
I mean Bud level of stubborness playing Calathes...
It will cost us the qualification.

On the other hand ..... I overrated Giannis so much ... he got the ball in his hand with an entry pass from Toliopoulos into the post and gave it up only to watch another 3p brick from Calathes.

Giannis folded ... again.. he doesn't even try to close games any more. Pathetic considering his talent. The exact opposite of mamba mentality.

If Servia beats S.Sudan with 3 or more we advance as 3rd no matter what happens in CAN - SPA.

Dude, put the ypologisth down. Sans Gianni Greece gets blown out of the building. He showed great patience and tried to get his guys going.

Agreed about Calathes though. Hope HBF never calls him back. Surprised Larentzakis didn't get more run.

Yeah, so they’d need to be one of the two 3rd place teams to advance. Watch point differential for South Sudan.

Serbia will surely be playing to win against South Sudan to automatically get that 2nd spot, but even if they lost are pretty much a lock to advance. Gotta root for Serbia to win that game by at least 3.

Ugh, Brazil has a 1pt edge on Greece in their group. That could be brutal.

I thought Giannis was much better defensively today than he was against Spain. He’s still prone to make mental mistakes when he gets tired, like when he was caught ball watching when Patty relocated for that 3, but for the most part I thought his focus and activity was much better.

Australia struggled to pass over him, he was showing better help off ball, and he was staying attached on the perimeter better. That, and just about no one could mess with him 1 on 1.

Giannis's gravity in these games is insane. Australia was perfectly content letting three other Greeks run free as long as Giannis didn't get a touch. They get so many easy looks because of him, just can't finish enough.

And I know the announcers were giving him grief over the moving screens, but I thought Papagiannis was actually pretty good. Controlled the paint during his limited time.

Greece is 3rd irrespective of the Canada-Spain result.

Greece advances if Serbia beats South Sudan by 3 or more

Let's get real, Calathes is limited and the guys that will replace him in the future are worse. Greece does not produce any good players, Giannis is unlucky playing in the worst period of Greek basketball.

That’s not fully true. If Spain loses to Canada by 1 or 2, Greece would finish fourth in the group, because there’d be a 3 way tie in points between Australia, Spain, and Greece, but Greece would have the worst point differential.

If Spain loses by 3, Greece and Spain would be tied in point differential, and I no longer know what the tie breaker would be. Id assume it would go back to the head to head result, and Spain would get it, but I’m not sure on that one.

This can’t be a real comment. Giannis was visibly exhausted. Clearly his conditioning isn’t quite back after being injured for a while. When his teammates were able to get him the ball he either scored or created decent shots for his teammates. Not his fault he is literally surrounded by bums on this Greek team.

Is someone forgetting he dropped 50 to win a championship 3 years ago? Then had a historically great series against Boston, taking them to 7 without Middleton? How soon people forget because he’s been injured the last 2 years…

only the point differential between the tied teams matter, in both cases it will be Australia 2nd Greece 3rd, Spain 4th

You’re right. My bad. I misread the part about point differential just between the tied teams. thanks!

Do you know what happens if South Sudan loses by 2, and both Greece and South Sudan have a -8 pd?

Calathes at least has a Greek father, but bizarre he hasn't learned a word of Greek all those years living there

Sent from my Pixel 8 Pro using RealGM mobile app

Walkup does at least have a Greek partner. On Calathes' language thing, he said he studied Greek language for like 5 years, and that he can understand what is being said. He still doesn't seem to speak it though.
