You're mistaken. He's a "20 pick" because we were told Masai would've picked him at 20 had the Thad trade not happened.

We have one nba caliber C on the roster --- Puetle.

That's the biggest non sequitur, and Birch isn't even a Raptor anymore. Fact is, Koloko is trash, and his output can be replicated by any G-league player or any second round scrub we drafted this year.

You're either trolling or don't understood basketball.
Pick one.

What an intelligent statement.

It’s silly and frankly childish to call any player trash, let alone a 22 year old rookie. The reality is the team was much better with him on the floor and he was sound defensively. Clearly his offense needs work but there is a path for him to have an NBA career if he can get healthy.

It seems natural to support players of the team you follow. Injuries included as long as the price is reasonable. Koloko showed lots of promise defensively. Is he healthy and ready to go? Did the year off stunt his development big time? Perhaps. Still rooting for the guy and would gladly welcome him on board if the FO thought he was up to it.

I think the FO would have picked him at 20. Him or Nembhard. Maybe Jovic. Not like it was a huge miss.

So what's his projected output 5 years from now if he stays healthy?

It's impossible to know that based off of ~800 NBA minutes, but it's also ridiculous to claim he was/is trash when he actually had a significantly positive impact for a rookie in his first season (the team was 10 points better with Koloko on the floor according to Cleaning the Glass) despite his shortcomings. He fouled too much and he blew a lot of easy basket because he wasn't strong enough, but those are typically two of the biggest obstacles that rookies need to overcome. The fact that he was still impactful in his minutes was promising.

If Koloko is healthy enough to return to the NBA within the next year or two, he'll probably find a home. The reality is not many teams are going to want to invest time into a mid-to-late 20s guy with health issues though, so his time is running out. It's unfortunate because he looked to be an intriguing prospect with a bright future if he could clean some things up and expand his offensive game a bit.

If he comes back, what is the smallest amount we can pay him?

He should only ge signed to a 905 deal with the "promise" that if he shows a year off didn't alter his possible future, we will make a spot for him.

Open the door for him, let his play on tbe 905 dictate the next steps...be it a 2-way, a Raps guaranteed spot, or a "we tried".

Return to Toronto Raptors
