Femke Bol with a terrific comeback. I know they beat the World Record yesterday, but ALWAYS go for your best team.
Or at least the second best.

They let a 19 yr old kid from college anchor this.

At this rate they're gonna lose the overall medal standings, just too many silvers who should have been golds.

They're still fine. China will really be the only competition in that dept. Obviously they can't let too many more of the opportunities where they're favored slip but I think they're still right where they need to be. Lots of gold still to be had for Team USA.

They lost a lot of ones in which they were heavy favorites. China will have weightlifting in the final week. Last Olympics they had 38 golds, worst they had since 2000 were 26.

China doesn't miss. Diving, Weightlifting, Table Tennis, Shooting, Badminton, etc.

Wherever they are favorites, 99% of the time their guys will win the gold.

Americans have missed a lot. Albeit, they usually took silver when they did so it's still a medal, if you want to count it as a miss it's your call.

It was a one gold medal difference in Tokyo, it will probably come to the wire again. I agree with you, they can't afford pulling the **** they did in the mixed relay though.

Quincy Hall and Norman jogging out there. Probably a second faster while jogging than whatever crap Deadmon put out there yesterday.

These two + Rai and whomever else will challenge that famous Michael Johnson led relay world record.

Andrew Valmon (44.43) Quincy Watts (43.59) Butch Reynolds (43.36) Michael Johnson (42.91).

These were the splits. If they can find a 4th guy who can get close to 44 flat, they have a chance.

nothing was saving her with her starts today, just sat in the blocks both of her races today.

If you don't push yourself back into the blocks you don't react well. With the Nails it would definately impact her ability to load herself into the blocks. You are basically loaded like a spring and when the gun goes off you release the energy and explode out. If you just lift you just lift your hips and don't load yourself into the blocks you get what you see with Shacarri. Also the angles are better for Shacarri when she is on her finger tips which she can't do with the nails. She either skates side to side or pops up on the intial step because she doesn't have enough space to drive her knee through.

That said I don't think She anything for Alfred on that particular day 10.72 into a -.1 wind in pouring rain is an incredible time.

Lyles started better but nowhere near good enough.

He's capped at low 9.80's with that start and I think the Jamaicans will go lower than that.

Kenny Bednarek may not make the finals.

There's 1 more heat to go. The top 2 in each heat qualify. Then the 2 fastest from all 3 heats.

Right now it's

1)Oblique Seville (JAM) 9.81 (qualified #1 in their heat)
2)Noah Lyles (USA) 9.83 (qualified #2 in their heat)
3)Akani Simbine (RSA) 9.87 (qualified #1 in their heat)
4)Letsile Tebogo (BOT) 9.91 (qualified #2 in their heat)
5)Marcell Jacobs (ITA) 9.92
6)Keny Bednarek (USA) 9.93

Actually Bednarek will make the final. The 3rd fastest in heat 3 ran 9.95

3rd heat was Kishane Thompson (JAM) 9.80
Fred Kerley (USA) 9.84

3rd fastest was 9.95

So the results from the semi's look like this

1)Kishane Thompson (JAM) 9.80 (qualified #1 in their heat)
2)Oblique Seville (JAM) 9.81 (qualified #1 in their heat)
3)Noah Lyles (USA) 9.83 (qualified #2 in their heat)
4)Fred Kerley (USA) 9.84 (qualified #2 in their heat)
5)Akani Simbine (RSA) 9.87 (qualified #1 in their heat)
6)Letsile Tebogo (BOT) 9.91 (qualified #2 in their heat)
7)Marcell Jacobs (ITA) 9.92
8)Kenny Bednarek (USA) 9.93

He's in. Heat three had only two very fast guys.

Kerley looks better than Lyles tbh. Didn't go full gas.

Depending on how Lyles starts, we might have four guys under 9.8.

I think the Jamaicans and Kerley are a lock.

Yeah, it seems every time I watch her race she skates to one side, typically her right (our left watching).

Also I'm waiting for a schedule opening and seeing Kerley go full mental.

100/400 double, let's do it baby. Never been close to be attempted even. I think these are his two strongest events. For whatever reason, he's meh in the 200.

But of course as seen today, both the 100 m and 400 m are scheduled in the same evening. And even if they weren't, I don't think he'll attempt that. I can dream though. 8-) 8-)

It's pretty unreal 3 guys ran 9.74 or less. This field is STACKED. I hadn't really heard of Seville. I just started following track and field closely recently, but I'm not going to follow it year around and watch the Diamond league and NCAA. It's pretty exciting.

I've kind of wanted Kerley or Kenny to beat Lyles. Kerley and Lyles close.

Yeah, Kerley looked like he let up a bit. Lyles is right there but I think he has a better chance at Gold in the 200. Kenny should be good there too.

I changed the poll to replace some no vote names with McKenzie Long and Alaysha Thompson and now if people want they can add a 3rd vote or change them.

Lyles is unbeatable in the 200m right now. Only guy doing it in the near future will be Knighton, but he was riddled with injuries this year.

But by LA 2028 this will be his event to lose. Lyles will be pushing 30 and he Erriyon will be just entering his prime.

Oh yeah, I was trying to remember Knighton earlier. I wouldn't count him out either. He ran his FIRST race of the year in the trials and easily qualified. It looked kind of effortless.

Knighton wasn't injured he tested positive for Clenbuterol. He managed to get off with the tainted meat excuse though.

Return to Olympics
