No, the tourist tax is going to other things, such as making the Citrus Bowl suck slightly less (always a worthwhile endeavor, or so they think.) The Magic were supposed to pay for this, which is why it still hasn't gotten built over a decade later. Now they've forced the city to offer them an incentive package. The Magic wanted tourist tax money to renovate the arena, but they were denied (I wonder why.)

I'm curious as to why a lot of these teams have practice facilities so far from the actual game arena. Wouldn't it be more convenient to just have it like in same complex/district?

I can't speak for any of the other teams, since I don't know their logistics, but the Suns' practice facility is in a very upscale area — right where most of these players live. The arena is downtown, right in the center of the valley.

Nuggets practice facility is so bad they always have preseason training in Southern California. I mean it is terrible. The owners are worth over 18 billion and they are practicing in a building that is 30 years old

Nuggets practice facility is so bad they always have preseason training in Southern California. I mean it is terrible. The owners are worth over 18 billion and they are practicing in a building that is 30 years old

That's how Kroenke operates. After the Emirates Stadium was built in London with no government/public subsidy, he tightened the team's pursestrings to the point that teams would ignore their low ball offers. Picture Danny Ainge in the epl. Only difference is that there is no salary cap and you are competing with the likes of Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and now the Saudi leagues. Bargain hunting aint going to get you very far. Kroenke treated Arsenal like any other of his sports teams. He even trimmed staff (including the Arsenal mascot) during Covid.

Almost every other country other than the US will not at all entertain using tax money/bonds/public resources to help build a stadium. Only recently has Kroenke become more flexible with Arsenal's transfer budget after the Rams, Nuggets, and Avalanche won titles.

it all makes sense now. Gotta be a strict “no corner close outs on the right side” rule, awesome job putting the wall that close to the court. It had to be a construction mistake but the foreman was like f it. I can’t take the crack-addicted-uncle-level paint job over the bricks. 99.99999999 % chance that scoreboard doesn’t work. Can’t have my boy Reed practicing in there, likely had far better facilities at Kentucky.

Not to drag the Kroenke story too much further but St Louis actually won an unprecedented lawsuit against him when he moved the Rams to LA. I do wonder if Seattle could have done the same against Clay Bennett when he moved to OKC, but it seemed they didn't have an appetite to fight like St Louis did.

The best part is that Kroenke actually expected the other NFL owners to help him foot part of the bill for the $790 million settlement since he did them a "favor" moving the Rams to LA. I think eventually the NFL convinced the other teams to pitch in on the settlement to the tune of over $200 million. Crazy to think that they didn't even appeal. Just decided to eat the costs as a cost of doing business.

But long story short, Kroenke had to pay over a billion out of his pocket for the Emirates Stadium and the St Louis lawsuit. So no wonder the Denver Nuggets training facility looks like LA Fitness. Kroenke married the Walmart heiress, and he didn't get this rich by spending more money than he needs to lol. Can't hate the hustle.

That Kentucky facility produced exactly how many league MVPs? I'm sure more future Enterprise workers practiced at Kentucky than the Rockets facility.

I kind of like the simple ones with no windows in high school looking gym. Every NBA player started their journey in that simple environment, and its basketball at its roots. It doesn't have to be fancy.
