Clarkson has had good seasons recently and has a much smaller contract, so if one of them is neutral it is him. Collins is just horrible for his salary. Perfectly fine player at the MLE or just above because he can start and be competent.

Collins is a 15-20 MPG backup center very similar to Jalen Smith and Smith got 3/27. Collins still has 2/52 on his contract. He has massively negative value.

I’m in on babyjax’s premise for the Jazz, and to his credit, I think he is overpaying for his favorite team, when 90% of the trades I see are more likely to be homerish.

I would think at this point in the off-season, these players would be deadline trades, and the Jazz wouldn’t have to give up assets. Maybe John Collins is the 27th best center, but he’d have more trade value once a few of the top 26 pick up injuries, and playoff teams see their missing center may cost them the season. UTA’s ability to take back more salary than they send out has suddenly become a strategic advantage as well. However, I think the new CBA will make in-season trades a little less common. I hope Ainge is watching injury reports all year, and has those GM’s on speed dial to “help” them save their season.
