A bit surprised, I think Nwora was good enough to warm the bench somewhere in the league.

I don't agree, but as a broader point, there's a lot of talent level overlap between the back half of NBA rosters and the other pro leagues. Lots of guys in the NBA who wouldn't play in Euroleague games. Lots of guys in Europe who could play in the NBA with the right fit.

This Markkanen thing is wild.

Why is Aug. 6 an important date?
It is the first day that Markkanen is eligible to renegotiate his $18 million salary and then extend with the Jazz -- and it is exactly six months ahead of the Feb. 6, 2025, trade deadline.

A player who signs an extension cannot be traded for six months, which makes the timing of a potential Markkanen extension of great interest around the league. If he signs it on Aug. 6, Markkanen can be moved on the day of the trade deadline. If he waits one day to sign, Markkanen can guarantee he won't be in the trade market this season.

Wait a couple days, Lauri.

The "Warriors won't include Podz for Markkanen" is such a clear echo of "Warriors won't include Klay for Love" that it has me questioning whether it's as silly as it seems. Just seems like Steph is 36 and the window is currently closed. Are they really committed to having him play out his career with an attempted hot swap rebuild?

Seeing the Noah Lyles world champ vs not world champ thing, and Devin Booker making a comment about NBA Championships being harder (which isn’t the point)…man, the NBA and other world leagues have such an opportunity to do a once every couple of years UEFA style tournament. Would be ratings peak IMO.

The league has enough gimmicks as is between the in season tournament and play in games. Hard pass.

The Noah Lyles take has lived an unnecessarily long life. Nobody will want to watch the Celtics beat Panathainakos by 50.

Good. Didn't want to see him moved to a team in the Eastern this season.

I love Ainge. He's a brilliant GM.

But at some point now he's got to get a winning team going. Keeping Lauri is the right move.

Keyonta George looks like a future building piece with Lauri in the near future and Utah is rich with tradeable assets. I don’t share in your love for Ainge although I do think he’s a top tier GM and keeping Lauri was definitely a smart move if GSW took Kuminga and Podz off the table.

I'm not going to say anything nice about Danny Ainge.

Always felt inevitable that he wasn't getting moved this offseason. He'll still have a ton of value on that extension unless the injury stuff gets worse. But Ainge is an absolute garbage drafter when he isn't gift-wrapped a Top-3 pick, and simultaneously never wants to trade his draft picks. That's a pretty bad combo when you're trying to execute a rebuild, and right now I'm not really seeing the foundation of a contender with any of their pieces and all those mediocre MIN/CLE picks/swaps. Lauri isn't good enough to really build a franchise around.

Yeah, not sure keeping Markkanen and paying him $200+ million is exactly the right thing to do but Ainge will surely get some team to bite eventually.

Ainge is a very good GM, he builds contenders through shrewd moves. He has the best team building strategy amongst GM's in the NBA imoooooooooo

It's never a bad idea to pay an allstar player in his prime in the NBA. We moved off a huge Miles Plumlee contract for nothing with John Hammond     Dude will get another treasure chest of picks when he decides to trade Lauri. Or maybe he just cashes in and builds a contender with him. Franchise has crazy flexibility because of his GM ability

Im going to counterpoint that and say its probably very easy to part out a team for picks and build a war chest if you start w a team as talented as they were.

The one thing that does look genius is getting Marki-something for far less than hes now worth, but that could have been crazy luck.

Embiid already dealing with an ankle injury in the Olympics is pretty funny. Just baffling to me how the Sixers and Embiid are Top-3 in both title and MVP odds. Sounds like some pretty awful bets IMO.

Embiid has joined "THE CLUB" who runs things unseen. "THE CLUB" decided that Giannis is a ONE & DONE Champion, it should never happen and it should not be repeated. They have picked Tatum as the next face of the NBA and have done a nice job.
