i mean,,,i'm all for pumping the home country athlete's....

but when it's asked "how do you think cranny will do in the W5000", the truthful answer was "not a snowball's chance in hell".

she came in over 200>300m behind the winner and wasn't even the best USA runner to finish

so,,the question should never have been asked because it puts the analysts in a tough position - which brings me to something else...ABC'S "UPCLOSE AND PERSONAL" WAS GREAT. i felt i got to know the athletes and their struggles because ALL athletes good and not so good go through the same struggles. i don't want to just hear about ledecky or biles. some olympic athletes work hard to squeeze out a life for their family. in fact lots,,,,in fact most.

NBC SUXXXX
ABC/ESPN is not THE sports network if it can't run the olympics on all of it's 6 or 7 channels

Video not available in my area. The social media and highlight video access in these Olympics has been completely brutal. One key reason I've watched far less this time.

If you have VPN, I had to switch to UK.

It's because the official highlights when posted by specific official region teams/networks are then region blocked in other places.

So even though NBC can post Olympics highlights for US people... If someone in the US tries to watch the same highlight posted by the official Canadian provider (or Canadian Olympic twitter) it gets region blocked.

It's pretty dumb.

Yes. And VPN switch to local markets is a solution. If someone doesn't have VPN, not sure about another get around.

Lengthy read, but there was questions early in the thread about what makes a track a 'fast track'. This goes into the development process of the Olympic track. It featured a lot of research into materials and composition and ultimately took 2 months to manufacture the components and then almost 3 months to install it completely in Paris.

The 'cushioning' has small pockets or air cells which in previous tracks were shaped like hexagons, but apparently research and testing has shown an elliptical shape worked better.

I still think this means the 'faster track' likely is more of an impact on longer races because in a 100m cushioning to reduce your energy strain/fatigue isn't really a thing... but you get into 200m and then especially like 400m/800m/etc... I think we'll see the stars at those distances doing very well on the track. We already saw someone like Femke Bol with one of the best 400m relay splits in recent history.

Would not be surprised to see Rudisha's 800m record from London go down (one of the most impressive runs I've seen). A lot of guys looking like they could threaten it.

Women’s pole volt had a 10 way tie for the final 2 places in the 12 person final… they have to go ahead with a 20 women final, from a field of 30 entrants in the heats

This is why I don't get the hatred towards the americans. There's a full fledged war on Threads and Twitter between a bunch of Jamaican ignorant fools who don't know the rules and the rest of the world.

America this and that, cheaters...they bought the gold, etc. They think the foot counts and not the torso and Kishane was robbed.

Seriously dude. Learn some **** rules.
And stop talking crap about the country most of your athletes train in.

Let's confine each athlete to the country he was born in and see what happens.

What happened to Elle St Pierre? She qualified in the 5000 and 1500. I can't remember if they have run the 1500 yet, so maybe she decided to focus on that one. She probably wouldn't have done well in the 5000 anyway. She and Cranny basically tied in the trials. NIkki Hiltz may be pretty good in the 1500 too. I can't remember if she beat Elle St Pierre or not in the trials.

Yeah, they both are and also have class. They are my two favorite olympians out of all of them. I do like McKenzie Long and her story though, Brittany Brown and how she finally made it after all these years and is kind of a force, Rai Benjamin and Kung Fu Kenny. I also would like to see Parker Valby and Weini Kalati do well in the 10,000. Parker Valby will be a force to be reckoned with in a few years in the 5000 and 10000. She was the NCAA champion in both, and came in 4th in the 5,000, leading the whole way until the end, and then that 10,000 finish was awesome...I posted the video earlier in the thread.

Oh, and I like Anna Hall a lot. I have heard nothing about the Heptathlon. There isn't a ton of time left to do everything, but I guess the field events they can do quickly.

I fear McKenzie Long will be left out of the medals...however, she will be great in years to come. She was the NCAA champion this year in the 100 and 200 and came in 4th in the 100 trials, and all the Americans did well in the 100, 2 getting medals. Then she beat out Sha'Carri in the 200 in the trials.

I think it will probably be Gabby Thomas, Julien Alfred and Brittany Brown getting medals. I'd be kind of happy with that. I like that St Lucia is getting represented.

I bet though that McKenzie Long is a medalist in the next couple of olympics if she is healthy possibly in the 100, but almost definitely in the 200.. I thought she was younger than Sha Carri though, but I guess I was wrong..they are both 24. That's kind of old for McKenzie Long to be the NCAA champion at that age....upon further research just now I guess she had a massive hip injury and did not participate in 2021 and 2022. I don't know if that left her more years of eligibility. Sha'Carri and Long will probably both be competing closely in both races, with Sha'Carri better in the 100 and Long in the 200.

One to look out for though who is younger than both is Melissa Jefferson who got bronze in the 100. She is only 23. I really like her too. TT Terry is not far behind, but I don't think she will be able to get there and is a couple years older than Jefferson. Those two and Sha'Carri all have the same coach, so it was interesting they all got to the olympic 100 finals.

Hobbs Kessler at #5. No Africans in the top 10.
