Lauri Markkanen, Jazz Agree To Five-Year, $238M Renegotiate And Extend Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Aug 7, 2024 4:00 pm

The Utah Jazz and Lauri Markkanen have agreed to a five-year, $238 million deal after they renegotiated and extended his current deal. Markkanen is ineligible to be traded this season.

Markkanen was the subject of trade rumors this offseason, but the Jazz instead will retain him for at least one additional season.

Good. Happy for him, and nice to see he waited so he couldn't be traded this season.

I know for a fact Danny Ainge isn't happy about this extension.

Yup, he hardball the Ws and it's not like any other team bite on his BS demand either. Now he is stuck with a good player on a bad team for another year of mediocre land while missing out the top picks like Cooper Flagg.

He did it to himself though. He was looking for another highway robbery, such as he did with Gobert and DMitch. The Warriors didn't budge no other team was going to either. I love that Lauri and his rep., stood on business too.

The angst among non-Jazz fans is palpable for some reason...

It’s not “angst”, people are just calling out the truth.

“Lauri’s ability to score in multiple ways and his versatility as a player makes our team better,” said Jazz CEO of Basketball Danny Ainge. “He embodies our team’s core values on and off the court. We’re glad that he wants to be a part of our future and what we’re building here in Utah.”

Yeah, sounds like he really hates the extension. But I guess your "truth" trumps anything else.

Can’t read between the lines? He has to say this to keep Lauri’s value up. The whole world knows Lauri is holding them back in the cooper Flagg tank race

Reading between the lines? So you are just coming up with what you think it means and declaring that the truth? Markkanen can't be traded until next offseason so he is already trying to prop his value up?
Also, if you think the entire objective of the Utah Jazz for 2024-25 is to do everything they can to be the worst team in the NBA, then okay--they are not "succeeding" by keeping Markkanen. After all, how did the ultra-tank plan work out last year for the Pistons (14-68) and Wizards (15-67)? I'm certain the objective is not to try and be this year's version of the Pistons.
