France getting by Germany and into the Final makes the loss feel a bit better. We were right in the mix of teams, except the USA. Even if Serbia would have been a horrible matchup, we were as good as anyone else.

I think the problem with Canada is they need to play better teams like the European ones to get the real reps they need. Playing all these weak South American and Caribbean teams is like practice and once they play a real team they don't know how to execute.

Yeah I don't think we would have beaten Serbia, at least the version that played the US.

I think they were prepared fine, they don't go 3-0 if they weren't because they had to work to win each one. It came down to this team selling out on playing small ball to fit in Murray and Nembhard and there wasn't really a balanced attack offensively. Who knows if it would have worked here, but Powell and Olynyk played a lot together in the World Cup and did reasonably well as a pairing.

I also feel a little better about the loss, but I still feel very strong about our lack of dynamics and organization on the offensive end, and that's on coaching, and the personnel we have. I hate Team USA as much as anyone on this board but to my surprise they do play a beautiful brand of basketball that I found very enjoyable, lots of movement and actions to make the defense work. And then you look at Serbia, guys setting solid screens and cutting hard to get open looks, beautiful ball movement much like the Nuggets, I guess that's Jokić ball. Canada has a long way to go if we want to compete in FIBA with the US and all these other teams.

I think Gobert not starting and playing any minutes threw the team off. France completely changed their game plan and strategy going into the knock out stage by benching Gobert going from defense to offense and we didn't and couldn't prepare for that.

The World Cup team felt like a more cohesive unit, this one was more talented but there really wasn't much offensive chemistry out there. The strength of the team was probably the D. Despite being undersized against France and committing a ton of fouls, it came down more to not being able to score.

That might have played a factor but Jordi also seemed dead set on going small ball, so I'm not sure what they would have done differently even if they were prepared if that was the case.

It's hard to complain about roster construction, and small ball, when this is all we have. Very maddening we didn't have Edey but otherwise it's not like we cut big men in order to go small intentionally. Our best players are guards and wings, it's not like we should have cut one of them to bring in a big who plays club ball overseas. As it was we were fortunate to get Birch off the scrap heap

shooting 23% from fiba 3 is inexcusable.
