FIBA was founded in 1932.
NBA was created in 1949, its predecessor BAA was created in 1946.
There are three kinds of people: Those who can count, and those who can't.

That was one of the best hoop games i've ever watched
Serbia - all the "vic's - was shooting out of their minds and watching Lebron switch onto Joker, Curry shooting, KD dagger was so fun
amazing.

FIBA refs letting more contact is great
OTOH the short court is lame, I prefer NBA length because these level of athletes just need more room in my opinion.

Yeah Serbia just had their Super Bowl and spent every bit of mental energy and choked it away. I'd expect Germany to take the Bronze.
Hard to say Serbia choked it away. They were over whelmed by the talent facing them. The most talented team down the stretch won. Hard to choke something when facing a way better team. It was only a matter of time. I was surprised they put up a fight as long as did. They were just tired at the end. Gave 110 percent. The US was just too talented
They missed all of their 10 threes in the fourth. Some of them wide open. And few costly unforced mistakes in last couple of minutes. They could have had this game. It looked to me like they got a little tight and in their own head in the fourth. They kinda choked man.

The were red hot from 3 for the first three quarters. Playing way above their heads of course there would be regression to the mean. Also the guys played GREAT defense down the stretch. The Serbian players lost steam in the fourth they were tried the shots were short in that quarter because the US were running them to the ground. The US played up to their potential and when they did no one was stopping them. Dont tell me all 9 threes they missed were open shots. The US played great defense in the fourth that was the difference. Heck they hit like 8 shots in a roll in the fourth against Serbia. Serbia didn’t choke the US took the game away from them

A few techs were called and the Curry no call with 20 seconds to go might have been debatable, but I don't think they can pin this on the refs. The US played better down the stretch and Serbia missed some easily makeable shots.

I didn’t say all the threes were open. Re read again, I said some of them were wide open (which is a fact), also the mistakes down the stretch. And that’s fine you can have your opinion. But you seem to be taking this personal and getting defensive when most people feel like Serbia could have had this game if they didn’t get jittery in the fourth quarter.
Props to them for making it an awesome game, but it’s a game they could and should have won if they didn’t tighten up and play so crappy in the fourth (and still almost won despite that and all the mistakes late). The way I see it this was definitely a choke job. Serbia choked

Some of the stuff put out by the media has been quite funny. Acting like the USA isn’t one of best grouping of athletes from any sport, ever.

he owns the french citizenship which as far as I understand is not that hard to get if you are from an ex-colony of france (e.g. cameroon) and also some parts of his family live in france. So Embiid wouldve had a lot more reasons to play for France than these mercenaries like Lorenzo Brown and so on.

You’re acting like the US didn’t play balls out defense in the fourth. This was all US. Serbia didn’t choke the game because the US was the team that everyone thought they were in the fourth. When the US played the way they did in the fourth no one was beating them. You talked about a mistake here and there and a couple of missed shots. Serbia had to play perfect ball for 4 quarters to beat this team. That’s unrealistic. The team had the better talent and it showed in fourth. To say Serbia should have won the game is ignoring the talent this team had. They have way better talent than Serbia minus Jokic. Not one player would make team USA on that Serbian team other jokic.

Luka was brought over to Spain at age 13 to further develop his basketball skills for real Madrid. Embiid was discovered at a basketball camp in Cameroon at age 16 and was brought over to the US to further develop his basketball skills.
I couldn't have been more clear about this in my previous post.
Luka decided to continue to play for his country of birth in national competitions. That's exactly why I said.
What did I lie about?
This is why I hate RealGM sometimes, people get too emotional when their arguments backfire and have to resort to claiming that other people lied to try to salvage their position. The saddest part is that a poll on this board showed that the majority of people here around 40 years old, yet continue to get all up in their feelings about this stuff.
You said the logic is the same. Their histories are different so the logic can't be the same. Luka played for his nation as a teenager. Embiid never did. You failed to mention Luka playing for his nation as a teenager. So you are simply wrong or lying.
This freaking guy is impossible to talk to. Man explained how the situations are the same, and he is grasping for differences. Yes, Luka debuted on NT play sooner, because he was already good at that age, but their situations are exactly the same, and not like Spain didnt try their hardesdt to recruit him and have him for themselves, they did that very much so. Luka tho decided play for his real country, not his work country, despite his country having less talent than Spain and everything. What Luka did for Slovenia will always be more meaningful because of that.
ANd this guy keeps saying Embiid guards Jokic and Wemby, like we didnt watch the game. They switched Embiid from Jokic, because he was too slow, and Victor is even more perimeter centric. It will be interesting to see who guards Embiid, France has options there, will Gobert play a ton, but Embiid will not guard Victor because US coaches arent that freaking stupid.

i think Grant Hill is not getting enough credit here. This was the first FIBA big time free agency haul and he delivered. LOL

I know, but Spain, being Spain, tried to get him very hard. Spain is pretty shameless when it comes to naturalizations. This is where Luka and Embiid are different, to Luka, this is meaningful, he does not play FIBA just to get passport or to win something, he has a purpose, he tries to do it for his country, not himself. Thats what FIBA usually is, except you are guy like Lorenzo Brown or Embiid.

Re: 2024 Olympic BASKETBALL Thread (pt.6: Men's Medal Games Saturday August 10)
I think Luka made a decision that is to be respected.
I would love to have him play for Serbia, but he feels Slovenian and he wanted to represent his country.
His mother is Slovenian. His father is Serbian, living in Slovenia. He played for a spanish club from his teenage years and lived in Spain.
Whenever asked to chose between Spain, Serbia or Slovenia he was respectful. He chose what his heart wanted and he should be proud.
Embiid is Cameroonian. Cameroon was a German colony taken over by the French. He lives in USA and plays there. He can also chose to do what ever he wants. He begged his way to a French citizenship, then got a US citizenship a year later, and switched teams just before tournament.
For some reason people defend this by saying "he is more US than French and cant be accountable for what he says or does because he is an idiot".
I mean yes. I agree then.
