Rumour has it that a recently discovered 45-year-old boxer named Fanny Paquiao wishes to compete in 2028. IBA has banned the Filipino boxer but the IOC has said yes because it enjoys reading all of these xy posts.

No third place match because of scheduling + unnecessary risk.

I find it hilarious to watch... Like I get some sports have judging in both summer and winter olympics... but in almost all of them some type of athletic trick/move is being graded.

At least in "Artistic Swimming" which used to be synchronized swimming there's an element of match your teammates moves. This whole 1 person freestyle dancing is just like...

Baseball and Softball aren't in the Olympics, but this is? Cricket isn't in the Olympics, but this is?

I mean. I got no problem with expanding the Olympics and allowing a lot of sports in... Just seems strange this is in over other established sports done by a lot more people.

This. The semi-final loser might be badly hurt, so they might require a longer recovery time to fight. Why risk harming the boxer further for the sake of a minor medal.

Olympics... Had a scheduling problem?? Didn't they have several years to figure things out? I don't understand. And what unnecessary risk? Of the fight itself?

Just seeing how medals in W boxing have the same thing - two Bronze medalists.

EDIT: I see LC33 explained above. But is this customary or common?

Having one-day matches didn’t make much sense since each match takes a 7-8 hours to complete and would take a whole month to complete the round robins and knockout stages. But with 20-20 cricket, more games can be held on the same day and the turnaround between games is shorter. It can be done with the two-week period.

China with 3 golds in women's boxing.

And possibly a 4th coming up. Luckily Khelif is the opponent.

It’s been that way for decades. It might not make sense to you, but it makes sense for those who are fighting and might be suffering from effects of a knockout (concussion) or an injury.

Edit: just saw your subsequent post now

Common. IMHO it is not a good idea to put boxer who just got his/her ass kicked into another fight very next day.

If they win over Khelif - i'll be shocked. But yeah that's definitely another surprise. I think they're gonna hit 40 golds from the looks of it now. U.S. really has very little shot at matching that at this point.

I know the U.S doesn't like to lose that gold medal race, 2028 will be very very competitive. I'm not taking 2020 into account but this is the weakest Olympics showing for the U.S. since 2008.

Its like this since I remember - 1996.
Keep in mind that boxers de-hydrate and re-hydrate to make the weight cut. This adds extra risk, combined with getting punched in the face.
Its both W and M boxing.

They have another girl in the final tomorrow.

Ridiculous. Like they're spitting them out of a factory at this point.

USA has the relays in track and field, 100 m hurdles, women's soccer and men's basketball tomorrow with great shot at gold.

Decent shot in women's golf and at least 1 gold in wrestling(Snyder).

Long shot in 800 m(Hoppel) and 2 more wrestling categories.

China has Diving, Table Tennis, Weightlifting with 1 gold each, and maybe that girl in boxing as well(75 kg). Also artistic swimming.

Going down to the wire.
