Sure, I'll be that guy. This squad was pretty unlikable and them losing vs. Serbia or France would have been a healthy dose of karma. As much as it's fun to dunk on Tatum and Hali, Lebron and the old guard (Curry, KD) glory merchant-ing their way to gold while telling the younger stars to plant their ass on the bench has a very off-putting *President putting medal around own neck meme* energy to it.

Summer League was fun, but I have to admit the basketball played at the Olympics was of a higher level. Doesn't make it better per say, just different.imo

Not a chance in hell the US wins gold with Tatum, Hali, etc.

Tatum shot 0/16 on shots that weren't directly at the rim.

In general, the younger group is probably still better than Serbia, France, etc. - but not the way those teams played in those particular games. I don't think they'd have survived the tournament

The US needed top tier Lebron, Curry, and Durant to win that. Serbia wins by 10+ if they don't have Curry and Lebron carrying the US back in the semifinals.

Amazing tweet. Hopefully this board lightens up a little bit because the hate he was getting during the playoffs made a bunch of you look like bitches.

Eh.

He's a douche.

Tremendous tweet though.

This is just the equivalent of a comedian stealing a joke. Jeff Teague said that after we won the final.

Expecting anyone to recall something Jeff Teague has ever once said or did is a leap.

Jeff Teague is actually very popular among the NBA podcast world. I guarantee you Hali has seen all of the stories he tells on these podcasts

This just sounds like the default "I don't like Lebron" argument. Watching the games it was very obvious that those 3 were our best players and we needed them to win. It was cool seeing 3 of the GOATs playing together and carrying. Booker was able to find minutes because he understood his role, needed more guys like that. Too much diminishing returns on these allstar team USA squads.

Jeff Teague didn't invent that.

Well I know where Hali got it from. It's a funny tweet but he just copy+pasted a joke Jeff Teague made in the same situation

This is definitely peak offseason talk

Ok

Random video I found with 250k views posted 3 days ago, Jeff Teague reacts. He's got a little more reach than you care to give credit. That "A on the group project" thing he said after the finals has been something I've seen circulated on the internet for years.

It also circulated on the internet for years beforehand though, is what I'm saying. Jeff Teague introduced you to it but I doubt many people heard it from him for the first time.

Yeah I don't think Jeff Teague made it up or anything, but shocked me to see 700k likes on the tweet. Seeing that it was in the same basketball situation my mind just instantly went to "wait isn't that just the Jeff Teague joke?". Whatever lol

Was it obvious or was this simply how the circumstances (i.e. minutes distribution) reflected what I'm talking about? Like yeah, Devin Booker "understood his role". His role being, "this is the KD/Lebron/Curry legacy gold medal, so take a back seat kid". The '92 Dream Team had two guys over the age of 32. The 2008 Redeem Team had one guy over the age of 30 (Jason Kidd). I personally don't care for this recent trend of USA basketball. Let the young players have their moment.

Hierarchy needs to be made in some way with all that talent. I'm hard pressed to say Lebron didn't look like the best player on the floor 90% of the time, he might be 39 but he is seriously impressive. KD came off the bench and is just a ridiculous FIBA player, and Steph is gonna win you games by himself. In 2028 we will get to see the younger guard take over. I think Cooper Flagg will be heavily featured on the 2028 team.

Larry and Magic didn't step aside and hand off the baton. Michael took it from them. Lebron, KD, & Steph are still sitting on the throne. And deservedly so.

Honestly, there were times I wished Melo would throw on a number and get out there.
