Denver | New Orleans | Portland | Toronto: Ingram Trade idea 823
Denver in: Brandon Ingram
Denver out: Michael Porter Jr and DaRon Holmes
New Orleans in: Kelly Olynyk and Anernee Simons
New Orleans out: Brandon Ingram and Jordan Hawkins
Portland in: Michael Porter Jr and Jordan Hawkins
Portland out: Robert Williams III and Afernee Simons
Toronto in: Robert Williams III and Daron Holmes
Toronto out: Kelly Olynyk
Why for Denver:
They trade for the for a more dynamic scorer, albiet less of a shooter, in Ingram. MPJ is locked in for 3 additional years which is an asset to the right team. Also gives Denver the potential sneaky option to explore free agency in 2025 if they were to renounce both Ingram and Murray.
Denver also trades this years draft pick Holmes, who unfortunately injured himself so is at this stage more of a long-term play which holds less value for a team looking to win now.
Why for New Orleans
Desperatley need more center depth, bonus points for a center that can space the floor like Olynyk. They also add Simons who kind of live a fully evolved Hawkins, giving them instant bench scoring. According to Fanso this also gets them below the tax.
Why for Portland
They added Avdija who's locked in for 4 years and now add MPJ and Hawkins who are locked in for 3 years. MPJ provides them more size to go with his shooting. Better roster balance.
Why for Toronto
Lose out on hometown Canadian Olynyk but add in Rober Williams who when healthy can be a dynamic game changer, they also add Holmes as a recent first round pick with long-term potential. In both cases they're adding players younger than what they sent out.

Zero interest for POR.
MPJ should not be a target. Too expensive and too injury prone. Fine player, but some other team can take that chance on him.

If NOP was desperate enough to trade Ingram for basically any center or center-adjacent player they would've just kept Valanciunas. Clearly they are aiming a bit higher and probably have a type in mind, which I'd imagine involves rim protection.

I don't think NOP wants to be paying two 6'3 guards a total of over $59 M the next two years(CJ & Simons)
One can only think of Simons, CJ, Zion, Olynky out there together.

I’m not sure Ingram is valued more than MPJ on an expiring. Certainly not with Holmes as an addition. They already lost a shooter in Cadwell Pope
Toronto probably doesn’t do this considering they may pickup Koloko before the season starts.
NOP trading for Simons while not offloading CJ is a blunder. Either guy would be an expensive backup with Murray presumably as the starting pg
Only team I can see liking this may be Toronto

I can see Toronto doing this. But it is an anti-tanking move, so I think it fits if, and only if, Toronto surprises and is competing for the play-in as the trade deadline approaches. If healthy, Robert Williams is a force on D, and adds win and badly needed rim protection.
And I think this overvalues Olynyk by quite a bit. I just don't see him as a starter on a good team; he's more of a stealth tank commander because he needs to play next to someone like Kessler to cover his defensive weaknesses.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Actually, no interest from Toronto on this.
RWill can’t stay healthy, so he’s a non reliable player. Daron Holmes is an undersized 5.
Atleast Olynyk can space the floor, pass the ball and bring vet leadership. This trade ain’t it.

Holmes can space the floor and is a 4/5, not just a 5.

Portland should have no interest taking in MPJ's contract. It adds money now, and longer term. MPJ may make the Blazers better in the short term, but we are trying to tank, so why would we even want that? And that is before we get into how bad his contract is if his back issues come back (likely eventually).

Re: Denver | New Orleans | Portland | Toronto: Ingram Trade idea 823
How is it possible for every team to lose?
I think this is too many teams, too many players.
I can see it being a plus for Denver maybe.

Holmes can space the floor and is a 4/5, not just a 5.
I never pencil late-FRPs into the rotation because they're likely to get most of their minutes in the GLeague. Daron Holmes is a rookie, just picked 22nd in the draft, who is yet to play an NBA minute. I'll assume nothing about his game or possible role, and definitely not assuming he can do what Olynyk can.
Toronto already has a half-dozen players under contract who, like Daron Holmes, were recent mid-first to early-second rounds picks and aged 19-23 who will be fighting for minutes; half of them will get DNP-CD because they're just aren't enough development minutes to spread around.
To conclude:
- If Toronto is trying to win(big IF) and RWilliams is healthy, this is a good trade for Toronto, with or without Daron Holmes
- If Toronto wants to tank, or RWilliams is hanging out in the training room, it's a bad trade for Toronto, with or without Daron Holmes
