TOR - NOP
Toronto trades:
Poeltl
Dick
Waive Agbaji for roster space.
New Orleans trades:
Jones
Murphy
Missi
The Pelicans get a starting center that puts together their starting line up and plugs a big hole. As of now their starting center would be a rookie Missi. The Pelicans are close to be a top 6 seed and it hinges on Zion. They also get a young but usable talent in Dick.
The Raptors gear up for a tank. They get a defensive center similar to what they lost in Koloko. The forward rotation of the future is pretty much set between Murphy, Herb and Barnes. They'll have a lot of assets the could consolidate down the road.
Poeltl /Thesis
Zion
Ingram / Hawkins
Murray / Dick
McCallum / Alvarado
Olynyk / Missi
Jones
Barnes / Murphy
Barrett / Brown
Quickely / Mitchell
This trade makes both teams better and gives them clear direction for next season.

Re: TOR - NOP
Looks like a massive overpay by the Pels. IMO the two most valuable players in the deal are Murphy and Jones. I know NO has an urgent need for a credible center but this is rediculous.
I'd also argue that rather than help tank, the talent upgrade heading to Toronto makes them a solid play-in team (9th in the EC or so) even with a weak center rotation.

I doubt TOR package nets Herb alone, let alone Murphy and Missi.

CJ is 32 years old and the Raptors are rebuilding. Why do you think the Raptors would value him when they are already guard heavy?
When did Herb get this valuable? He isn't an all star or projected to be one. He's similar to Poeltl in that regard. I'd give the value advantage to Poeltl here since the Pelicans should be competing, yet they have a rookie projected to start. There is desperation there and other teams are going to prey on it. The Raptors were in this position recently and got spurred in a deal.
Then we have to include Murphy for salaries to match. Poeltl for Murphy and Jones looks lopsided so I included Dick, a recent lotto pick. This leaves Toronto with a C hole but if Missi is valued that high he could be replaced with a future pick from MIL.

Are they rebuilding? I'm not sure, they opted to trade OG for immediate contributers not picks.
CJ is a vet guard who provides shooting off the dribble, which the Raptors lack.
3&D on MLE deals are very valuable, Murphy isn't a salary filler, Dick is less valuable than Murphey.

Trey can not be called salary matching when he’s more valuable than anything Toronto sends out.
Deal feels really terrible for NOP. They have draft capital to pay for Poeltl, no reason to use their impact young wings.
But with these two teams, I stick with CJM/first for Kelly/Brown. NOP’s tax issues go away and they bring in a vet to at least split minutes with Missi.

If Murphy or Jones were that cheap, one of them would be in Cleveland right now.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Herb just made all Defense at 6’8” tall, and still has 3 years left under contract at roughly $42m total. He’s pretty darned valuable right now. And he is showing signs he could be neutral to slightly positive on the offensive end. He’s not a guy that NO will give up easily.
As is, it’s not terribly hard to argue that New Orleans is maybe giving up the 3 most valuable trade pieces here? I mean, clearly Poeltl is a better player than Missi, but trade value? I doubt NO would consider giving either of Murphy or Herb for this entire package from Toronto. Let alone both, while also adding Missi.

I think that deal could work if CJ gets rerouted to 3rd team.
The question is who is the third team that would be interested in a veteran like CJ, and send back assets for a rebuilding team?
I can potentially think of Atlanta, if they want to compete. They have a hole at the 2, and if they want to make the playoffs, they send out something like D Hunter + Cody Zeller (both negative contracts) along with the LA ‘25 1st

Re: TOR - NOP
No way NOP does this. They’re literally trying to move Ingram to make way for Murphy.
Herb also getting moved makes it over the top unrealistic. Maybe a 3 teamer where we move Poeltl, Ochai for Missi, a first and reroute CJ to LAL for Rui and Vando or something.

Herb or Murphy are both individually more valuable than Poetl + Dick combined, so hard to see them accepting this.

Re: TOR - NOP
Real talk, if the Pelicans don't trade for Poeltl, I'm having difficulty identifying another team that would. These Raptors pieces just don't have the value that's being attributed to them.

And the Pelicans just dont have the salary to trade for Poeltl in anything but a 3 way for Ingram. So not likely, but i guess possible
To the OP trade, i dont think you can get 1 of Jones or Murphy for that package, let alone both.

Re: TOR - NOP
I wish NO would do this as it would make them a lot worse and lessen the competition for Dallas. But they wouldnt touch this whatsoever. The 2 best pieces in this deal are Jones and Murphy

The move is to bring in the Clippers.
Toronto trades Poeltl, Agbaji
Raptors receive Missi, Powell
Powel is a heck of shooter last year and gives a good backup option to Barrett allowing Dick to season another year. Missi gets groomed by Olynyk.
New Orleans sends Missi, McCollum
Pelicans receive PJ Tucker, Agbaji, Poeltl
Poetlt becomes the center they need. Tucker a buy out candidate, Agbaji comes off the bench behind Jones.
Los Angeles trades Powell, Tucker
Clippers receive McCollum.
Not much difference between McCollum and Powell at this point but McCollum does have a better resume. Allows LA to get off of Tucker for limited cost.

Toronto was offered the Edey (9?) pick for Poeltl. Powell and Missi wouldn't be enough if that was their most recent offer. The overvaluing of Murphy and Jones is insane. Neither of these guys have creation or playmaking skills that would turn them into all star players. Maybe both aren't worth Poeltl, but in a 1 to 1 exchange it would be equal. A lot of posters fail to realize that no one is going to bail out the Pelicans without getting extra value. The Raptors know the Pelicans need to compete with investments in guys like CJ who are 32. Poeltl for Herb or Murphy 1 to 1 is fair value, but it isn't right now. The Raptors would likely ask for a pick or additional value if this were to ever happen. Powell is basically the same age as CJ, the Raptors are building a young team and have enough vets.
