Tragic, really. One and done at Kentucky. 11 ppg on 35%/30% shooting? Should have stayed in school and learned the game. IMO, a G-League education is far inferior to an NCAA one, especially at a primo program like Kentucky.
He fell to the late second round, and is now on a non-guaranteed training camp deal at age 22, hanging on to his pro career by his fingernails.
Or he could've gotten exposed as a sub par player his second year in at Kentucky and never got drafted at all. He can make the Spurs roster if he can find his jumper again which disappeared this past season. We'll see.
The thing was, he was already exposed as a subpar prospect in his first season at Kentucky (but I get your point- his stock could have dropped even further in a second year...)
We will never know, but IMO he might have developed a little better and matured staying at Kentucky for another year. Of course either way it could have turned out that he washes out in the NBA because either way we all agree his skills right now are not enough. It's also possible he could have gotten lapped by the next recruiting class at Kentucky, in which case his best shot was to leave Kentucky for the draft or transfer to another school (which could also have been very dicey.)
I hope he sticks in SA though.
