Well I guess I'll start this fight...
I wouldn't say the most, but Lauri Markkanen is up there.

It's been Tatum for a long time, but there's a wave of fake superstars who put up decent stats but are inconsistent.

They hover around the 10-20 rankings in the league.

I won't name them because it'll probably piss off 25% of the fans on this forum.
So I'll stick with Tatum.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

I don't know, overrated is a strange term, its very negative, tho it does not necessarily imply that overrated player is bad. Also it is very subjective, because you projecting what you think other people think, its mind read quest almost.

that Wong posted just asked this last week, and first two names that popped to my head where Domantas Sabonis and Nikola Vučević. I feel majority opinion is better than what they really are, especially Vuč, people still think hes good because his game is appealing to they eye, but the substance is not there at all. He jumpshot looks vet, but % vise, he sucks. He looks skilled in post, but man is soft and can't draw a foul even if you post him up non stop. People still think that guy is good, and I do not think he is good at all, he is offensive centers whose offense is garbage.

I disagree with Markkanen, because at least here, too many clueless posters think he can't play defense, because its stereotype I guess, he is white Euro big who shoots 3s. But in reality he is excellent forward defender, I would say he is underrated if anything, but maybe I am proving Rockazoids point...

EMbiid is not overrated anymore, most people gave up on him entirely, how can he be overrated at this point,

I haven't heard anybody talk up Nikola Vucevic in over a year. Pretty sure most people know he's mediocre and limited.

I think some guys to consider for this post are:

Darius Garland - max contract, a lot of hype, but really hasn't even had an allstar quality season. Blame Mitchell all you want.

LaMelo Ball - a lot of people seem to see him as a superstar/franchise player despite the erratic play and significant weaknesses. Not even mentioning the health.

Of all-time? Toss up between Kobe, I.Thomas, Iverson and Bob Cousy.

Case in point- all the noise from Boston fans and Boston media about him getting DNPs during the Olympics.

Even Tatum’s finals run was somewhat pedestrian with bad shooting efficiency. I like Tatum a lot as a player and I think he’s very valuable as a big two-way wing. But he’s not the generational, tier 1 superstar he’s sometimes made out to be. He’s very fortunate to be playing for a franchise who puts a ton of talent, and stability around him. Bostons success is largely due to their depth, shooting, and defense. Not Tatum carrying them.

I don’t know how non Houston/Toronto fans feel about him but Fvv getting a max contract after his worst season as a starter and a guy who barely shoots 40% overall and 38% on high volume 3’s is pretty wild. The Rockets certainly overrated him.

They overvalued him. No one cares about him in the broader sense.

Embiid is still very overrated. I still hear some people call him a top 1-3 player. He isn't even a top 5 player.

Yes, hes been on bad teams, I know. Why does that make him empty calories? And yes, his defense is very good. This is exactly what I am talking about, guy is underrated if anything, dudes look at his archetype rather than what he is, he is very good two way player. The critizism on him is that most of his baskets are assisted and he is not shot creator for others, he is simply finisher. And most poeple do not even think he is worth 3 or 4 firsts, most fans think AInges asking price for him is crazy, which it isn't even, compared what guys like Mitchell, Gobert, Bridges got.

Overrated or over-hated ?

Here's Kobe at 22 , 2001 WCF vs the team favorite to win it all ( one of the countless examples), just after demolishing the Kings with 48+16

Bryant's 45 most ever against Spurs in playoffs

Shaquille O'Neal has been convinced. Kobe Bryant is the best.

"I told Kobe that he was my idol," O'Neal said. "I'm serious. He's playing phenomenal. I think he's the best player in the league, by far."

Bryant fell just three points short of his career playoff high of 48 set in his last game, the series clincher against Sacramento. It was the most points ever against San Antonio in a playoff game, surpassing the 43 Hakeem Olajuwon scored for Houston in the 1995 conference finals.

With 93 points in consecutive games, Bryant was drawing a comparison with the greatest big-game player ever -- Michael Jordan.
Horace Grant kept referring to Bryant as "No. 23," the number Jordan wore. It wasn't a mistake.
"I knew what I was saying," Grant said.

O'Neal said it wasn't the points but the way Bryant scored them that was so impressive.
"He's been getting his points, getting everybody involved, drawing and kicking, doing the right things. Somebody once said the mark of a great player is how you make the other players around you play. I now can truly say that Kobe Bryant is the best player in this league."

https://www.espn.com/nba/2001/20010519/recap/lalsas.html

Kobe was 22 at that time, and the most impressive thing is that he only had one 3 pointer made, and played vs one of the best defensive teams of all time ( Duncan+ Robinson Spurs )

That's my point

He played terrible for team USA when they got bounced and during the playoffs
